Is this really just Flash sucking on OS X?
Comcast, for those who are curious.

It's only a fraction of what I'm supposed to be getting. (If I did the math right  ) But I suppose downloading from Apple servers an hour before the Stevenote might have tainted the test.
Probably. That is the usual case with Cable and ADSL/DSL.

FTTH is a bit more reliable for sustained bandwidth. :D

Your point about the Apple servers being busy is well taken. You might want to try the test again in a few days.

BTW, the reason that I asked for actual DL tests is because the speed tests never seem to be close to actual throughput. For example, my friend's FTTH only barely registered around 2Mbps on the DL speed test yet he could DL the file in 9 seconds. Quite a difference to say the least.

Did sushi's DL test: 4 minutes, 59 seconds

The beta speedtest: Picture 3.png

Still slower than Windows ... wonder why?

Especially the post I made earlier today - 5000kbps less!

My upload speed is like 7500+, but i noticed most others are in the 300-600 range. Is it bad that mine is high or what? Im confused.
High upload speed is good. It means you can post to MR that much faster. :D

I wonder why is FiOS so much slower than FTTH (Fiber to the Home) here in Japan?

Both are optical correct?

FTTH is basically a Fast Ethernet connection (100Mbps). FiOS is between 5 and 50Mbps.

Anyhow, glad to see the states finally getting with it concerning broadband.

I have no clue. But after hearing that, I wish I lived in Japan. :)

It feels a lot slower than the test said it was...

paying $50 per month for Verizon DSL.

I haven't yet made the jump to FTTH.

I currently have a 45Mbps ADSL line.

I can do the DL in 3-4 minutes, sometimes a little faster.

Right now that's good enough for me. But FTTH is very tempting.

which is FANTASTIC!
mainly because until last night I was checking my mail on dial up getting a max speed of 12kbps

SBC Yahoo dsl service. Just upgraded to the Elite plan. Not too bad since they are not finished with my upgrade.
