Can you guys put a small description of the apps, at least those not so common. It would be nice for me since I'm waiting to buy my first mac and switch. This would give me an idea of some cool apps i may be looking for.

Thanks in advance!

Certainly!!!

Finder= sort of like Explorer in windows, the file system program thingy
Dashboard= press a key or click the icon, and the screen changes to one full of useful little apps
Mail= Apple's e-mail client, it's actually pretty good
Safari= Apple's own browser, it's okay, a little slow though.
Firefox= another browser, I use it for handling desktop wallpaper.
Camino= my browser of choice. Fast, free, lightweight, stable, looks good
Skitch= Image handling program. It's kinda like Paint. However, you can webpost images, edit make great lolcats, and things like that.
iChat= Apple's AIM client, it rox
iTunes= Apple MP3 app, syncs iPods, you can buy music from the music store
iPhoto= neat little application for organizing photos
iMovie= nice and simple movie editing app
Word= Word
Address Book= stores contacts
Image Capture= selectively downloads images from cameras
iCal= sort of like Outlook, calendar/scheduling app
Quicktime= movie viewer
System Preferences= main application for changing system settings.

I hope you're happy. That took a while! :D

my bastard of a kobhens dock..

if someone can point me out as to how to change my finder and trash icons, i'd greatly appreciate it. i've already tried the terminal commands, changing the pngs, changing the icns, etc.

if someone can pm me their own instructions (not those from a website), that would probably be the easiest way. thanks

Pretty standard. Have a few custom resources taken from New Dock. Apps that might not be recognized: Adium (the black orb), Coda (leaf), VLC (orange cone... custom icon)

i've noticed some people have different icons for the cs3 apps. how do you change that? the ones by default are horrible.

i totally agree that the original cs3 icons are incredibly bland and uninspired. if you look at my dock a few posts back, you will notice that i used the adobe cs2 icons (which you can find online pretty easily) and just switched em with the cs3 icons. there was no flash or dreamweaver cs2 icons, so i used the bridge cs2 icon for flash cs3 , and some other cs2 leaf icon for dreamweaver cs3.

Has some good artwork but there are no instructions but if you look in the comments you might find some. I think you just replace the icon in the Resource folders though.

my dock on the bottom-left of the desktop. slimmed it down a little.

Screencapture 1.jpg
[click for full size]

the adium icon is an ichat replacement from the Xtras and the icon next to Numbers is microsoft Project Gallery from office 2008. stacks are downloads, documents and applications with aliases of apps & utilities not in the dock. the rest of the icons are self explanatory.

I went with a more minimalist approach than I had before...thanks to Stacks in Leopard.

Download an app called LiteIcon, you can drag and drop any png into the program to change any icon. Just found this out yesterday :)
