How do some of you have the greyed box background removed from your docks?

Ya know...the background of the dock itself? I've been dying to turn that off. Any ideas?

Pretty basic dock. I decided to move the dock to the left side of the monitor since I like to have that extra strip of space on the bottom of my Macbook. I disabled the magnification. :D

From top to bottom:

Finder, Dashboard, Mail, Safari, OmniWeb, iTunes, iPhoto, Acquisition, Transmit, Adium, Garageband, Guitar Pro 5 (with replacement icon from InterfaceLift), Microsoft Word

Is there any way to change the finder and trash icons without buying candybar or using terminal?

I thought i'd try something new and put my Dock on the left side of my screen, should look cool when my external monitor gets attached to it!
