It hovers around $1.50/L where I live. I've seen it as low as $1.20 in the last month but with christmas that won't be repeated for a while.
1.50/L is about $5.79/gallon.
We have terrible public transport in my city too and our cost of living is high but we do also have a high minimum wage. We moved into the city to avoid having to drive so only spend $20 or so a month.
