I should probably explain that in more detail. I'm currently 30 years old, and have been playing golf for 27 years. My father is a Class A PGA Professional, and currently the Director of Golf/Head Professional at a country club in Kenosha Wisconsin. So, I grew up with a teaching pro in-house. I've basically been in the golf business my whole life. And, up until about 3 years ago, it was also my job. I was working as an Assistant/Teaching Pro at a club here in Omaha since finishing up college.
So, don't get too spooked by the + handicap, though I did have it down to a +3.1 at one time. I have many years of hard work and practice to get there. Just stick with it, and those scores will drop. Without getting into too much personal swing stuff, I will say, work hard at your short game and putting. Having a reliable short game and consistent putting will save soooo many strokes over trying to hit the ball straighter or longer can ever do.
