I'm looking at trying out how to play guitar (never have before, should be interesting) and I'm not quite sure which guitar to get. Not really looking to spend tons of money until I know if I'm going to like it or not. The guy at the guitar shop has a used B.C. Rich Warlock bronze series in great shape for $149 and a new Ibanez RG120 for $199 that he recommended. Which of the two is better? Obviously the Warlock is cooler looking. :p I don't really know what to look for between the two, so I don't know which one I should pick. I mainly listen to rock music (Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for my Valentine, etc) if that makes a difference. Thanks for the help. :)

Here's my Slammer Pacer. Slammer is made by Hamer. It's just a beginner guitar but it sounds great!

Also a pic of my mixer, Behringer UB2222FX-Pro. (I do a bit of semi-professional audio recording for various events)

I picked up my baby today, her names eleanor; Custom made one of a kind maton ms2000 DLX, hand crafted, took me a whole 6 months of painstaking patience. Here's a pic of it and my other guitars oh and me, sorta. P.s that amp is freaking amazing.9

That is incredibly nice.

I wish we had that brand in the states. I did visit the US Carvin Store in Hollywood and it was great seeing the guitars in person. Being US made, they are still a bit pricey, especially since Fender and Gibson have come up with much more affordable models like the Highway 1 strat and tele Series and the Melody Makers and satin finished Les Pauls and SGs.

I used to own US and foreign guitars w/o much thought, as I just chose what I liked for live gigs and recordings, but now after the fiasco of many years of bad/misguided Washington D.C. rule, my next guitar will be from the states, as I suppose many in recession countries will probably buy from their respective countries. With NAFTA, however, buying from Mexico and Canada is, tax-wise/tariffs, the same thing, but I am tempted to buy "Aussie". Your guitar is Australian, right?

Enjoy your guitar and keep us posted here in the states since few, if any, know your brand. It looks so much sexier than the regular Gibson or Fender we have here.

Yeah; I was given a choice to purchase a gibson les paul; but when I was at the shop, I saw the standard edition of the Maton MS2000, it was just so much easier to play and the feel is amazing. To be honest gibsons are overrated, they're heavy, bulky, the bridge pushes the strings up higher than i'm used to the neck didn't feel right. So I ordered the DLX edition with a honey wood backing and neck with mother of pearl inlays, Initally it would have cost around $2700-$3000 AUD but because I know people who actually work at the factory i got it for $2079; And yeah, it's fully australian owned and hand crafted. :)

That's a pretty good deal, so about $1350 USD.

I thought about spending about $1300 USD back in the mid-1980s for a Yamaha DX-9, which was a pretty standard music industry synth used by a lot of professionals. Today's synths at a third of that price do ten times more and sound way better.

The most I ever spent for a guitar was about $650 US dollars back in the early 1990s for a heavily modified old Telecaster similar to the picture below which had also been refretted with heavier frets. From the early-1980s until now, computerized factories and a better supply chain management for parts has made guitars list for around $1000-$2000 dollars for many higher end models whether we are talking about a 1982 Fender Stratocaster with case or what you would pay for one today online. Each year, the dollar buys more as guitar companies try and keep up with increasing competition. When I first started electric guitar nearly 30 years ago, a custom made guitar would be about $1300 dollars from a small, private maker and company made guitars, whether back then but especially now don't have the same feel as a custom made instrument like yours.

Anybody own a Yamaha Silent Series guitar they can post? I'm looking into getting an SLS100S just for fun. :) They are beautiful. And silent! :D I can literally jam wherever, whenever, without disturbing anyone.

My current uni setup consists of:

Left: Martin Smith Cutaway (I rarely use it, but it's good to have around)
Right: Squire Strat (Cheapest guitar I've ever bought, but my most loved)

I've never seen the point in owning an expensive guitar, I run them through so many effects pedals/tools, all that expensive equipment gets washed away in a sea of phaser, flange, chorus, modulation, wah-wah, reverb, echo, and whatever else I over indulge in

I have a small array of effects pedals that I use, that's posted in another thread.

Hey guys, I'm looking into getting a Guitar for just casual playing, not in a band or anything (My first guitar-Electric). I don't want to spend over 150$ for everything- Thats an Amp and a guitar right? anything else I need?.

Anyways, what do you suggest?
