yeah, im with you on the finish. i really like it.. Seeing so many tiger finish LP's made me want to get something a tiny bit different..

i recommend the DeLonge.. the dirty finger pickup is great.. you wont regret it..

also, have a look at the Joe Strummer telecaster if your looking at getting a tele.. they look and play awesome.:apple:

I love the Strummer tele, and it's a lot more affordable than the custom shop relic '52 Tele, basically $799 vs. $1999 at guitar center.

On the Les Paul finish, though I am a hard core fender, or fender style player, I remember going into guitar center and checking out a whole bunch of great Epiphone Les Pauls, but they all had tigerstripe and I asked them if they had one without tigerstripe. They though I was crazy. :)

As for the DeLonge, I have never seen one that I know of, but when I hit guitar centers, they have hundreds of instruments and I get lost. One I have considered, but is truly out of my range, are the Vigier guitars and the one I like is $4200 dollars, and maybe reduced to $3300 at best since it's handmade and the model I like are made in batches of a few dozen, worldwide. I also like the Ibanez George Benson 20th or 25th anniversary model, custom shop edition, and that's $10,000 dollars and even if guitar center went down 50% percent on that, cash out the door, I could never, ever afford that one. That guitar, ironically, is a tigerstripe laminated top going from light gray translucent to dark gray translucent...basically a GAS instrument.

GAS, by the way, stands for gear acquisition syndrome and it's an untreatable disease.

next are electronics i hope! yyeye go all the way man

Definitely.

But it is a work in progress. I replaced the stock machine heads with much nicer ones. Next up are the pick ups. I am thinking EMG - 60 for the humbucker some time around Christmas.

There are definitely some nice guitars in this thread. :)

hahaha..

sounds like i suffer from the same thing! lol..

the guitar that i want, that there is absolute NO point in me getting is the Gretsch White Falcon.. i have the biggest facination with that thing, its literally the nicest guitar i have ever seen.. :)

but i look at it as a trophy wife, it looks awesome, but you cant exactly take it out camping.. its more of just a show guitar, one you place on your wall and admire as a work of art.

cant get over that $10,000 guitar.. haha..

i reckon you should go out and buy it just for the hell of it.. ;)

I just picked this up this weekend in Dallas. It sounds pretty good for a cheap guitar, but this thing is going under the knife. Lollar pickups, RS Guitarworks Electronics, and TonePros hardware. I think it's going to be pretty legit once I get all the new stuff dropped in.

I've always dug 335 style guitars, but never knew if they would work for me. I'm loving this one so far, and if this keeps up, I'll get a Gibson before too long.

I owned a strat clone and an Epiphone Tele before finally buying my favorite guitar (Les Paul, obviously) in 2002...

Epiphone Les Paul Standard in limited edition blue burst.

Also have an Ibanez 5 string that I'll post up a bit later. For now, here's the axe...

The good thing about any semi-hollowbody is its practicality. If you want a great jazz tone at low volumes with a clean jazz tone, get a Duncan Seth Lover smooth and warm pickup and run it through a small Polytone tranny amp. Yet if you want to crank the mutha, just drop in some EMG 81s and the thing will scream like a Les Paul or SG similarly equipped with EMG 81s and sound great with a Boogie 180 watt full stack. The semi-hollowbody will also sound amazing through a tube driven vintage Vox as well as a state of the art transistor Roland JC-120. Those semis are the best of both worlds at any volume.

The anodized gold isn't nearly as flashy and shiny in normal light. Its really quite mellow, about the color of the natural wood...

Nice gear. I'm digging that Masterbuilt. I'm trying to talk the guys at Wildwood in ordering me a Vintage Thin Skin Relic in lefty.

Yes sir, I've always loved semi hollow tones. My tastes always tend towards the ultra classic. I'm a Strat guy through and through, but I love my Les Pauls as well, especially my R6 with the P90's. I'm not much of a metal guy, more blues and jazz is what I tend to play.

The Lollars made this guitar really come to life. My Dr. Z pairs extremely well with this guitar. I was very pleasantly surprised - it's supposed to be a "Strat amp."

The Lollars made this guitar really come to life.

I have heard so much about Lollars, and all good stuff.

In my Aria semi, I put a Duncan '59 and a 1961 Gibson humbucker in that guitar.

For superstrats, I used the Duncan JB for lead position on one.

For a Sears guitar, I put in another Duncan '59.

One vintage Telecaster got a pair of Duncan 1/4 pounders. But I always wanted to try DiMarzio.

Otherwise, Ibanez guitars had Ibanez pups, Gibson guitars had Gibson pups, and Fender guitars had Fender pups.

But one stock LTD/ESP I bought off the shelf had EMG-HZ-1 hi-gain passive humbucker pups in them and they were similar to the Duncan JBs even though EMG claimed they were even hotter than that. Though meant to be a metal guitar, it turned out to be more of a high gain classic rock and blues guitar with those pups.

These days, I may completely forgo any high powered active pickups as I don't have or want to have any amp big enough to handle that much gain. Active pups I have tried, EMG and Yamaha, don't come alive under 100 watts, and then cranked on top of that with a 4x12" or 8x12" cab or cabs.

I have thought about downgrading the "fat", full-throttle humbucker-ness of one guitar and putting in classic P-90s that are direct retrofits. Duncan makes those. A little more humble, some more high end treble and dual setting quack would be nice.

Anyway, from last paragraph from above post, here's the P-90 single coil retrofit, no routing in a standard humbucker guitar.

Of course, the exact opposite theory of the P-90 single coil being retrofitted into most standard humbucking cavities is the dual coil blade pickup with lots of gain, for metal and punk.

And if you really want severe output, something only active pickups could do, this pickup, the EMG 81, will do but you will have to use the included volume and tone pot to harness that power.
