If you have no clue about sound quality it might be a fine reason, yeah.

Beats by Dre are just a gimmick. People buy them because of what they are, not what they can do.

Overpriced crap. Anybody with any sense will go for something better ie Sennheiser.
I've worn just about every brand of headphones as part of my living for over 30 years in both broadcasting and in the recording industry and I do not believe the "Beats" brand is a "gimmick"...I get some don't like the sound and others think they are overpriced and they have every right to say so , but the guys behind the design of these phones have very solid reputations in the business of sound reproduction...Jimmy Iovine especially as one of the top recording engineers in the history of the music business (John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and U2). I personally like them for what they are, very good portable headphones for digital music players. I just purchased the "Beats Wireless" headphones as I have a need for my headphones to be cordless and I find them just perfect for my needs. I'm over 50 years old so I couldn't give a crap about how they look or what kind of status symbol it portrays that seems to bother others (I also have the B&W P5's, Shure E5's and yes, even Bose QC3's for traveling and I enjoy them all)...they are well built, sound great for bluetooth technology and are very comfortable...
Now, are they for everybody? No. Are they for Audiophiles? No. Are they expensive? Yes, but referring to people as "senseless" because they like the brand seems a bit harsh to me...

People may think that they're a waste of money, as you can get a significantly better sounding pair for the same price (or a pair that sounds the same for a significantly lower price). People may also think that they are bought purely for the fact that they're popular or look good (the second one is a fine reason to pick headphones, IMO).

Why is everyone putting thumbs down at the dr dre ear/headphones?
I don't own a pair myself or am i planning to buy a pair...
just curious

Beats are only popular because they have heavier marketing then brands like Sennheiser and such. I agree, Beats are nowhere near the level of any quality headphone.

take it here

constant battle over the price and quality of beats on this picture forum. just trying to help redirect and stay on topic (pictures)

Do you know if I can get these anywhere for less than $160? Been on the hunt for awhile. I heard they used to be like $100 =_=
i got mine from this seller (authorized Audio Tech dealer) on ebay: http://myworld.ebay.com/proaudiomart/
it was a few years ago and they were in fact $100 then. they offer very good SQ for the money, but it seems the street price has gone up significantly since they have gotten so popular and have favorable reviews out there.
proaudiomart is still selling them and they have the best offer option so i would suggest offering a little lower and seeing what they will take. gl.

I rock my B&W's around the house or traveling. I use to have Bose QC's, which were good on the plane, but after listening to the P5s, I had to have them.

And, my Bose IE2i's when I'm exercising or making phone calls in the car. I have to give props to Bose on the earbud design of the IE2's - they nailed it (at least for my ears). :D

Hey I figured since this post was about headphones i'd ask here. I am looking for a new pair of over ear headphones from between $100-200. Preferably something open ear (I like to listen to a lot of hip hop and i hear open ear has better bass for that) but something still very accurate. I currently own a pair of Bose Q15's and Beats Studio (hate the overwhelming bass). I'm planning on giving the Q15's to my dad and the Beats to my friend, I just wasn't a fan of the Beats and I don't really like the Bose either, can't explain it. So i'm mostly living with a pair of Klipsch S4i earbuds which I love to death. But I want something over ear for a better soundstage and better overall quality.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

AKG seems to be good in the Hip Hop genre, something like the AKG Q701? Quincy Jones version if you like green. :D

I would highly recommend the Denon line of headphones. The D2000's are amazingly good. The closed design allows very little sound to leak out and very tight bass. The bass is definitely present and accurate, not overpowering though. They are very light around your head (at least for me) and are comfortable for hours on end.

You can find them used on some forums for around $200 usually...

I decided to buy my last pair of audiophile headphones 6 months ago, and went for the Sennheiser HD800 headphones after extensive auditions at dealers and friends houses. They are so transparent and clear whilst also being comfortable.:)

The sound? It's like an HD650 with planar magnetic steroids.

I've posted mine already, I think, but here goes: Phiaton MS400.

The overall sound quality is outstanding, and can be driven by an iPod quite easily due to the low impedence (I think it's 32 Ohms). They also have a rather "fun" sound, and it doesn't tire your ears. They're what Dre Beats would sound like if they were good. :p

Several user reviews from Head-fi. I don't agree with all of the reviews, but they're there for you to read.

Some really nice headphones on this page. Unfortunately they aren't comfortable or practical for me so it's mostly IEM and earbuds personally.

Blox M2C. Nice wide soundstage for earbuds. An upgrade on the Yuin PK3 I had previously.

Yuin PK1 next in line once I decide on a portable amp.

I bought these when I was 17 years old so next year they will be 10 years. Still works like a charm. It's Philips, the rest is long forgotten.
