Anybody have a good recommendation for a closed around-the-ear headphones for air travel? Not looking for active noise cancellation, I get that "pressure on the ears" feeling whenever I put on nay noise canceling headphones, which unfortunately ruled out the Bose QC3 or QC15.

I have a couple IEMs but they get uncomfortable after a while (apple in ear, klipsch s4i), and don't feel like taking the B&W P5s.

Considered the Sennheiser HD280, but not sure if the iphone/ipad can drive the headphones.

So any ideas on decent, preferable not too expensive ($150 or less) pair of isolating headphones?

Thanks!

64 ohms is ok. Optimal for an iphone/ipad is going to be around the 30-50 range (where a lot of those type cater). Just be conscious you won't be able to go super-loud, which shouldn't be that necessary anyway with their isolation.

Velodyne V-Pulse + Fiio E6 = significant bass lift :D

I think you're talking about the Fiio E6. You can do a search for it, it's a pretty good headphone amp for the price.

After reading a few good reviews on this thread and elsewhere, I picked up a pair of RHA c200 headphones. The over-the-ear design is way more comfortable that the on-ear sony noise-canceling set I used previously and the multi-axis adjustments are perfect. really digging them, especially for $30 shipped.

Hey guys

I am looking to invest in something better than stock earbuds.

I have been going between the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 and the Sennheiser HD 449.

I want something like these that will drown outside noise and not leak sound. All the technical terms baffle me and the CNET reviews don't help me come to any definitive answer.

I like these two because of the price.

I will be using them with iPhone / iPod. No crazy amp addons like some of you crazy audiophiles have

Any suggestions around about either of these or something in the same price area?

Thanks dudes and dudettes.:p

Do you think buying something like this (FiiO E6) is worth buying and using with iPhone/Macbook for Apple EarPods?

Disclaimer: I am not an audiophile, and listening is a subjective topic but ...

I just tried this and the E6 doesn't make much of a difference with the EarPods. I did not hear any significant changes to the actual sound profile, and only a slight overall volume boost. Which makes sense because Apple designed the EarPods with their devices in mind, so they have the proper impedance/other specs to be driven well with them without any help.

One is closed and one is open, but I pick the M50's.

M50s all the way

Recently picked up a pair of Monster Turbines for used $47 from Amazon. They got here in the mail and I immediately check to see if they were genuine. To my surprise they were and I registered them with Monster. Saved myself $128 according to Amazon. I am loving them! :)

I also have a pair of Sennheiser HD555's I bought from Amazon 3 years ago. They have been a great pair of headphones for watching movies and listening to videos. Music isn't as great, and they leak a ton of sound, especially after I did the 595 conversion.

I have a pair of crumby Philips headphones I bought while on vacation a year ago when I lost my Apple Earbuds. Spent $30 on them and they have the sound quality of $10 headphones. That's the last time I buy headphones from CVS.

I currently have a pair of Sennheiser HD 202 IIs that I've been using since August, I mentioned here awhile ago that I saw someone else that had a pair and decided to get them since they said they were nice. The only thing I don't like is that the cord is massive. I find them extremely comfortable to wear otherwise and they sound pretty good to me.

Can anyone recommend a pair of headphones that have a similar sound, are in the $100 price range, and have leather pads like these vs the foam that I see on most of the other ones?

I do my own EQing, so I don't want too much fancy stuff other than good clarity, minimal bass.
