No, I haven't heard of that site before...I just looked at the units in the store and figured that with just a few extra holes they would bolt together great, giving me a stand exactly the height I wanted. I wound up with a full extra shelf and legs, since I just used the bottom piece and side pieces from the second unit.
I am looking for a new desk, but dont want to spend a lot of money. I was thinking of buying a piece of Pragel countertop for $50:

Plus I am looking for something to use as legs. I was thinking filing cabinets, but i want something that has open cabinets, to place my xbox360, audio reciever, cable box, etc. Any suggestions?

i thought you did that, i looked for the dual layered stand from ikea and the Lack was it but only 1 shelf. I think i might do the same, for $140 you can't go wrong. Can you post how you bolted them together?
hey! thats the hemnes..
how is the build quality of it?
well, since I basically built it, I'd say its excellent.
the quality seems pretty good especially for what you pay. it seems very sturdy. the bed went together with very few extra pieces left over (I got tired and gave up on installing a couple of what seemed to be extraneous screws). and the dresser, while it consists of probably 600 pieces, was fairly easy to put together.
I would recommend it
okay, looking good.
how about move-ability?
could you disassemble the bed and move it with it still being as sturdy as it was?
the bed yes. it could fairly easily be disassembled and moved (especially if you leave out the couple of screws I did) with no loss of structural integrity. the dresser however once put together cannot be disassembled.
the bed is solid pine stained dark. the dresser is solid wood except for the bottom of the drawers and the backing which are both a fairly study cardboard/thin fiber board.
looks like i made my choice then!
new bedroom set for crimbo
Read the comments on the Flickr page I linked to. I explain it a little bit there.
hey man, i just wanna say thanks for the idea. I managed to get it together despite making some drilling mistakes. I don't understand why they don't just sell it like this, it looks perfect and much more useful for typical tv viewing.
pardon the crappy iphone pic quality

Love that setup! Nice TV also. My roommate got that same one from Woot a few months ago. Question about your iPhone pic too. Is the lens on your iPhone's camera all scratched? The coating they put over the lens on mine got scratched and now when I take pictures all the light areas become big blurry blobs. It's annoying!
Just did my office/loft...

I'm sorry, but if one was to go by your speaker set up, you sit around a yard/meter from the screen. Do you?
are the wall shelves from ikea too? if so, which ones are they? I like how they're thick, but not deep and they have the lip in front for the frames to lean against (unlike the lack shelves).

No, my gf picked them up at Kohls. They are smaller units hung right next to each other. After the fact, we saw something similar at Ikea that was like 4 feet wide.
Yeah, I noticed that there were several of them side by side. They look awesome!
It's a shame there ain't a Kohls around in Canada
Never heard of "Vizio" (I'm from Denmark, and I don't believe we even have that brand here). It just looked permanent, what with the "wall-installed" speakers and all.im not that big of an audio/videophile, note the vizio tv. Also this isn't really that permenant of a setup because im moving in a few months. When i pickup a better tv and surround sound ill probably plan out the logistics a bit better.
