Photo for an eBay auction. I cropped it and had to adjust the white balance. I'm pretty impressed as glass/crystal can be difficult to get decent photos of even with a good camera.

Question. I'm a newbie as far as photography, but I'd like to be able to take good iPhone5 shots. What's the secret?

Do you use HDR every time? BTW, what is HDR and when should you use it? What are the advantages?

Try using as much natural light as possible when taking a picture with your iphone (or any camera). Natural light is what makes or breaks a photo unless you set up a studio with your own lights. Slightly overcast days are my favorite for taking pictures outside.

HDR is sort of complicated. Bing HDR photography and you'll find good info

Nighttime test I did last night at 9pm with available light. Top row is the iPhone 5, bottom row is the 4S.

Maybe a night vision type capture? The 5 looks a little grainy, but perhaps it is trying harder  Capturing more light.....

I wanted to comment on each one but then I realized I'd be spamming. :D

Great shots, thanks everyone! :)

Sorry, but Ditto! :D

One of the few flowers left in my garden. The darn British weather is killing all the plants
