They didn't give you a new phone?

You should have gotten a new phone. Those usage times are terrible. Even if you turn all of the stuff on you should have better tines than an hour.

Instead of me typing it all out - let me show you what he said..

This is an Apple "genius". He said he would replace the phone after he reiterated that I had turned on "services" that were known to drain the battery and my battery life was ONLY "below average". He started to get rude and I told him I don't care. It's a phone. I am not turning off 3G or anything else. OUT OF THE BOX default is what it is. Except I have the screen brightness at B (slider is under the letter B in brightness). I said every time I come in here you are rude. I spent $300 dollars on this phone and I expect it to work as advertised. You are not going to tell me to turn this stuff off when your commercial CLEARLY states i PHONE 3G S with better battery life. He was pissed but shut up and wrote what you see after I asked for it.

Little pr!ck.

I declined a refurb phone. I went to best buy an hour later and the phone was replaced without any hassle. In and out in 5 minutes. New phone seems fine. I can say my sleep button is not sunk in like my previous one. Screen is fine. I restored it, installed the new update and am currently draining it. Will charge it up and go from there.

Why do the "genius'" always need to be asses? I would never treat anyone that way. This guy has been there for at least 3 years and I have dealt with him before. Every single time - he's an ass.

Good for you!

Just be sure to set it up as a new iPhone and do not restore from a backup of a 2G or 3G phone (including backup from a 3GS that was restored from a backup of either of those).

Yeah. I did a restore from a 3GS phone setup as new. :)

Just a note, I have a 3Gs that was restored from a 3G and had crappy battery life. Now with the update it's really improved the performance. I'm just about at 4 hrs of use and a day standby and 43% life left. Can't complain.

The settings theory may be accurate but if that is the case the update must have changed that setting then.

I wish to extend a 'control' here.

I turned PUSH OFF, Location Services ON, 3G ON, Wifi CONNECTED.

7 hours later the battery percentage indicated 100%.

I am only at 80% with 30 minutes of calls usage is 2 hours and Standby is 15 hours.

So you updated your 3GS with a 3G backup and have had no battery issues?

I think he means yesterday's 3.0.1 update.

Yeah thats what I am reading from his post. He got a 3GS and restored it from a 3G backup but was having bad battery life. Installing the 3.0.1 update fixed it. At least - that is how I am reading his post.

15 txt msgs
i have another photo of 1 hr usage and standby and it died while i was using safari
cheap **** battery

Right. First day with my 3GS. I've mainly been browsing today on 3G. I understand this is the phones first charge so it prob will start lasting longer after a few power cycles.

With 30% power remaining
Usage: 3hrs 23mins
Standby 7hrs 5mins.

My 2G struggled to hit 3hrs usage without having a dead battery...

First day or not - that usage is crap. Take the phone back and get another. Seriously. Power cycling isn't going to make it any better.

Dude......I can care less what you think....I'm telling you after charging the battery almost every other day...these are the results that I can come up with...working currently on another TEST to see if I can get the same results or better this time. Plus as u can see, the last screenshot it showed a usage of 7 hours...this time only a bit over 6 1/2 hours

Let me get this right.

You had 3G ON
You had wifi ON (so it connects whenever its in range)
You have 5 mail apps checking every 15min (yes 5 not 1)
You had push apps
You had location services on?

2 days standby and There is no way u are going to get 7hours of usage unless they were all from music playing. You are kidding no one.

And you say u used the phone extensively ?!?

Anyone know if having push on all the time affects the battery life to a large extent?

Apple says 20% - 30%. I notice that with push mail on top of that I loose another 20% - 30%.

So in short I have about 1/2 the battery life with push enabled.

When I said push I meant push notifications. Ie. Yahoo messenger
take it it's all the same as far as the battery goes?

Attached is a pic of mine at 20% this morning. I'm on a jailbroken 3g. The use was exclusively internet forum browsing, email, and texting, nothing else. I was on wifi the entire time, although 3G wasn't toggled off. I have location on, bluetooth off. My brightness is set at the H in the Brightness title (I'm guessing it to be 50%?).

I never said that I had location services on!!! I turn it off since I know it's a battery drainer as well. Everything else was ON as u described. I have 5 bars almost all the time so having 3G on shouldn't affect me as much cause the coverage is good around me.
The usage time came from my usage described in my previous post. I barely use the ipod feature on my phone so the usage didn't came from that.

Supposedly having location services on does not drain the battery. The only time it drains the battery is when you'd use it, but having it on, does nothing.

Hmm OK....well, I have been reading a lot about the drainage for using location services so I decided to turn it off on my 3GS and 3G.
But good to know....I can turn it back on :D

So far today on my 3gs

usage 1 hour 38 min
standby 5 hours 19 min

78% left

all browsing on 3g

is this good?

TheSpaz told me this. I guess I believe him and it does make some sense. Also, no one came to the thread we were discussing this to bash him about it.

Location Services IS NOT a battery drainer. I'm on Day Two with Location Services ON and still have 34% battery. It is ONLY when you use Maps, Camera, or other Apps that check location.
