Guilty pleasure

I got the Canon XS package from Future Shop in Canada. I feel I little guilty as I shopped for it Christmas day when their sale started at 8pm.

I must say that I was torn between this camera package for $499 and the XSI for $699 from Bestbuy. Both came with the same 18-55 kit lens, second battery, battery grip and bag. I opted for the XS and decided to spend the "savings" towards a new lens.

I also got a RAM upgrade for my wife's Macbook - 4GB for $49.98 and a 4 GB SDHC card for $9.99

Another 4GiB RAM for my desktop (TWIN2X4096-6400C5) which makes a total of 6GiB;

Zalman ZM-2HC2 hard drive cooler (5 internal disks & only 4 actively cooled 3.5" bays means I need to mount the 5th in one of the 5.25" bays that doesn't have any cooling);

Need a universal backup and NAS, perfect. Use the firewire 800 for MBP time machine for one drive. Other drive will have the USB hooked up to the airport extreme and Firewire 400 to the PC desktop so transfers are quick.

Been on the fence about it. Now just need to decide on what to put in it.

Deciding between seagate 3 platter 750's or WD 640's. Both are 75, just seagates reliability lately seems to have been less.

Some great prices on Blu-Rays right now, so I decided to add to my small collection:

Burn After Reading and Sopranos Season 6 Part II From Best Buy for a total of $59.34:

Weeds Season 1 & 2 and Crash all on Blu-Ray from Amazon for a total of $38.47. Not bad, I say:

Well dammit - I went for it. Nikon P6000. I am hoping reports of slow AF in low light are just relative to to the tester. I guess I shall see!

Also picked up a 20gb PS3 for my brother. Used but in great shape, with 8 games and 2 controllers.

I bought a 2.4" screen protector for my phone (I hope it fits), a 3.5 mm headphone jack to stereo RCA adapter cable for my ipod so I can listen through my home theater equipment (500W subwoofer... *drools*), and finally a Micro SDHC/USB reader that is about the size of half a USB port. All of it free shipping, from dealextreme (sure, it's one of those iffy websites, but... it looks okay :p).

Shannighan, is that cleaning cloth that comes with iklear good for protecting your screen from your keyboard when closed? I have a 13" MB, and my old blackbook has marks on the screen from the keyboard keys pressing against the screen. It is starting on my aluminum MB and I want to avoid it...

Your aluminum MacBook has a glass screen, so cleaning it should get rid of the marks, unlike the plastic screens of the older 'Books that left permanent marking on it.
