How are you liking the synology? I was thinking about getting this model. How much useable space do you get if it's in RAID?

With two bays only you are basically relegated to losing one of your disk(unless you can do Raid 0).

At any rate, my lates splurges:
To replace a dying 4870x2
51902_l.jpg

A new block to cool it
sidewindercomputers_2111_44373198

And an unnecessary but entirely awesome new pump top for my dual 355's, going to yank out my aging D5 vario and put it to the side possibly for my next project
sidewindercomputers_2110_33873622

And on Steam something I greatly enjoyed and wanted to enjoy again

 Can't believe I didn't notice this as I scrolled down. That bike is redonkeykong. You better be a Cat 1 racer!

haha thank you, I love her very much.. I had the 2008 Wilier Cento Anneversario edition but the monocoque carbon split on the seat tube. So for a small upgrade I bought the 2010 Superleggera.

Not a cat1 guy... just a guy who rides a couple centuries a year and like to think he's one of the big boys

Wow!I envy you man!wish i can have the new mac mini too..how was it?

It's great! It runs super super cool 35 degrees C right now. The design is absolutely beautiful and it's got pretty decent performance and the graphics are superb on my cinema display. :)

Yeah I noticed mine runs so cool all the time. Much cooler than my old Mini and current MBP. The Mac Mini is very under rated..

I got mine for $20. Education discount. :)

And yes, Windows still sucks donkey balls.

Good for you.

Haha. I have education discount as well, but I just get the "upgrade" dvd for $30. Didn't want the upgrade. Wanted the complete thing so I can move it from computer to computer if needed. Even the $64.95 deal was for a digital download - of the upgrade windows. So I think I got a great deal there. $257 on Amazon, $150 on the bay.

Windows is fine. It is no OSX obviously, but no school inherently supports OSX like it does windows. ;)

I bought COD4 Modern Warfare.. I just bought MW2 and liked it and beat it, so I thought i'd try out the first one, since it's supposedly more of the same.

Seriously contemplating an iPad purchase, but I can't seem to justify it for myself, so i'm holding off on that one for now.

Wasn't worth it for me. I enjoyed it for a couple weeks but I found myself not using it because my Macbook does everything better than the iPad and my iPhone was much easier to take with me. Is it a cool product? Absolutely. Do you need one? No.

Depends on the person. It has been a godsend for me to carry 3 years worth of notes and guidelines on every disease state on my rotations for pharmacy school.

Would you recommend a GTX470 over a HD5970 for a gaming desktop? I'm thinking for building one.

Went a little crazy for my birthday this month. Spent the weekend completely redoing my living room and adding a slightly bigger screen than my 52" LCD.

1) Mounted the 52" TV to the brick wall on the opposite side of my living room
2) Mounted an electric 120" screen to my ceiling for event and evening theater viewing...it is AWESOME

Everything is completely automated. I have a 4x2 HMDI switcher which runs the signal from my 360, Mac Mini, Tivo, or PS3 into the projector and 52" LCD simultaneously. I hit one button on my Harmony One and the TV turns off, the screen drops, the projo turns on, the receiver switches IO and the appropriate AV device is activated. I've wanted something like this since I was 10 years old....and now it's mine...I RULE

While that is seriously drool-worthy, I have an honest question: Why?

What circumstances would you rather watch on one screen over the other?

Nice! I enjoyed COD4 single campaign and online gaming more than I did with MW2. COD4 has been out nearly 3 years now and its STILL my favorite for online gaming :D By the way, when you finish the game let the closing credits play. There will be a timed final mission.

Anyways, my recent purchases:

Well the 5970 is similar to the old 4870x2 and 3870x2, in that it's a Crossfire setup on a single PCB. While it lived my 4870x2 was really great, performance on average was amazing, not sure how the 5970 will perform but I am sure it will absolutely blaze. Higher resolutions are the only time I would really recommend something that big, current GPU tech seems capable of handling very well even with lots of AA and AS.

Because I can, and because I love watching movies and TV on a huge frakking screen. All my friends came over this weekend and we watched World Cup, and 3 or 4 movies...not to mention when football season starts, Oscar Night, World Series, etc...

Haha moviecutter, you don't need to justify it...sometimes you just want to watch on a big ass screen, sometimes you just want to watch on a small screen.
