Can I ask why you picked the 24-105L as opposed to like the 135L, 100L, or 24-70L?

I do a lot of weddings and wanted a versatile lens that I could use for them and for some decent portraits. Ambient lighting usually sucks at indoor weddings, so fast lenses are the best. While 2.8 is awesome, 4 is awesome in its own right with image stabilization.

The wedding ceremony is usually composed of still people, so IS will allow some extra depth of field, narrower aperture and slower shutter speed while shooting handheld. Adding flash will allow some action stopping shots at darker receptions.

The 24-70 is also up there for the best general purpose glass, but this lens is there too. All the wedding studio owners I have talked to have said that this lens is on their bodys the most. I have not actually ordered the lens yet, do you have anything to add that could maybe sway me to the 24-70? The 2.8 is really enticing but the 3 added stops with IS on the 105 seem really sweet for my work... thoughts?

I need to pull the trigger soon :D

Just ordered this for a Magic Mouse. Does anyone use any of these? How good are they?

Dont ask why... even I dont know. I'm getting the iPhone 4 next friday as well hopefully.

Don't worry, I thought the same thing when I bought mine.

I could still live without it, but it's really freakin' cool to have.

Would anyone happen to know what weather app that is on the iPad?

Really wanted a dedicated video {pocket} cam and got this one. Quite pleased with it so far.

I know you weren't asking me, but the 24-70 is the best lens I have EVER used when it comes to wedding photography. The 2.8 is VERY needed. Especially when I shoot weddings. I need to let in as much light as possible. That and the 50mm 1.2 stay on my body 98% of the time. And if I need a little more focal range, I just put the 24-70 on my t1i, which has a cropped sensor, making the focal range closer to the 105mm area with the benefits of still having 2.8 f/stop. Hope that helps a bit!

YES. Very very much so. Thank you. I was leaning between each of those lenses, as they are really highly regarded. : ) It seems like the 24-70 does some wicked, wicked portraiture too. So I think I will get that. I was planning on starting a thread about the purchase, but your comment made a lot of sense. 2.8! : ) I can't wait. It's gonna be rad. I'm also going to get the nifty 50 lens too just to have. At my studio I'll be doing portraiture there. The nifty isn't 1.2... but 1.8 is pretty cool too. I'll be okay. It's crazy- a lot of people in my small, sleepy college town use stock kit lenses in all their work. And.. it shows! LOL. :D

I have it, and I am really happy with it. It's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for.

I have no complaints whatsoever, it's very durable: I had it for quite some years now and it still looks like new. It is very well made and it feels pleasing to touch.

Actually, I would say it's the best mousepad I ever had.

Picked up an iPad this morning, but I can't be bothered to post an image of that. More importantly I purchased this little lady, we're calling her Cactus and pick her up tomorrow (I didn't take the picture).

Glad I could help!
My friend uses a 1.8 for all of his work. It's not the sharpest at 1.8, but if you're in the studio and stop it to 4.0, that lens is SHARP for the money. You can't beat the price of it! You just have to baby it because it's completely made of plastic. Which means it's not durable and not water proof. A lot of people have problems of them falling apart. My friend has had it for a while though, so I don't have first hand proof of this. If you ever have a couple thousand extra to spend, the 50mm 1.2L is really, really nice for portrait work.
Yeah, kit lens is a no-no. Haha. I've been known to use it once or twice when my 24mm 1.4 isn't quite wide enough, I'll admit. I guess it's just how you use it. It's totally not sharp enough for studio work, at all. Here's an example of one that I took with the kit lens.

But like I said, I rarely use it. I need to invest in the 17mm or whatever it is.

I checked out your blog. Looks like you have a cool studio set up! I'm jealous. Even though I have a successful business, I'm only 17, so I don't have the ability to get a studio like that. Good luck man!
