Glad I could help!
My friend uses a 1.8 for all of his work. It's not the sharpest at 1.8, but if you're in the studio and stop it to 4.0, that lens is SHARP for the money. You can't beat the price of it! You just have to baby it because it's completely made of plastic. Which means it's not durable and not water proof. A lot of people have problems of them falling apart. My friend has had it for a while though, so I don't have first hand proof of this. If you ever have a couple thousand extra to spend, the 50mm 1.2L is really, really nice for portrait work.
Yeah, kit lens is a no-no. Haha. I've been known to use it once or twice when my 24mm 1.4 isn't quite wide enough, I'll admit. I guess it's just how you use it. It's totally not sharp enough for studio work, at all. Here's an example of one that I took with the kit lens.
But like I said, I rarely use it. I need to invest in the 17mm or whatever it is.
I checked out your blog. Looks like you have a cool studio set up! I'm jealous. Even though I have a successful business, I'm only 17, so I don't have the ability to get a studio like that. Good luck man!
