Yes, they are real. Shadow boxes were created by an artist who worked in several museums preserving insects, and then decided to use his skills for the public to own.

The first picture of the pair is a close up of the spider. The second shows it in the shadow box.

Me and my friend had the same case. They do a good job at protecting your phone... but they do not last long. The entire thing just starts cracking and eventually falls apart. Mine lasted less than six months and I take pretty good care of my phone.
