Dell Precision 450 for my Mum. She is currently using a circa 2007 horrific and dying celeron Fujitsu Siemens laptop that runs Vista so badly, you have to use the classic theme as to not harm performance  As much as I would like her to go Mac, she wasn't too happy with my iMac G4 due to its speed - and the games she enjoys playing require a Mac with an Intel processor. For a penny less than £30, this was a bargain and a much more affordable/upgradeable solution as it is a server class machine with dual CPU sockets. I'm going to surprise her with a brand new computer setup when she gets home from work one day next week :D

  • Single Intel Xeon 2.80GHz (1M Cache)
  • 512MB DDR Memory
  • 40GB IDE Hard Drive
  • 64MB AGP Graphics Card
  • Windows XP Pro (Fresh install and COA included)

At that price you can afford to throw some more RAM at it....This is making me wonder about the 2 self-built boxes I still have in a cupboard...They are both running (or were) Linux but the specs are higher than your Dell....I might stick them in the market place and see...Both have at least 4GB DDR 400 Ram I think..

Yeah I mean the other machines at the same price were smaller form factor and were running similar pentium 4's with say 1GB ram. But this machine should be sufficient for her needs at least and obviously more room for upgrades due to dual optical drives, dual CPU etc. Its somewhat a PC equivalent to my PowerMac G4 MDD in terms of architecture. The annoying part is the DDR PC3200 this thing runs doesnt seem to get cheap.... The cheapest I have found 2GB for is roughly £28 which is pricey compared to other types.
EDIT: Plus I forgot to mention, this has much better graphics than those cheap P4 systems. The only bottleneck is the RAM but as you say, I can afford at this price to throw some more in :)

Is there a reason it normally doesn't run at 75? Sorry, I don't have one of them, just wondering.

No there is no reason it wont run on temp you set. But 75 is kind of uncomfortable in summer where out side temp are around 90.
