I'm saving up for a BMW/Audi though. Still I am tempted!
I can't speak for Audi since I'm too lazy to go look, but have you built a BMW online lately?
A bottom-rung 328i starts at $36,500, and for the nearly $40k "luxury" car that it is, it comes with literally nothing standard that it should:
--no HID headlights ($900 option)
--no leather ($1,450 option)
--no sunroof ($1,050 option)
--no premium stereo ($875 option)
--no heated seats ($500 option)
--no lumbar support unless you shell out for the $3,100 premium package
--no keyless entry unless you again shell out for the premium package (we will assume we are talking about intelligent key with pushbutton start here)
--no metallic colored paint (give me a ****ing break, every color besides plain black and plain white is a ridiculous $550. Not special tinted clearcoats or tricoat paints, just regular old metallic paints that have been around for decades for free from everyone else. What an insult to the kool-aid drinking consumer)
It'll also set you back a ridiculous $3,100 for the technology package to get navigation.
But you CAN start off with one of their "lines" for an additional $2000-$2500 which includes such luxurious features as an "Oyster-colored signature key fob with silver accent", LOL.
When you think of a luxury car, aren't the first things that come to mind the luxury amenities, like leather, heated seats, HID headlights, moonroof, and premium sound? Well, you get exactly none of it for $40k with BMW. Add it all in as options which have pretty steep prices and you have a bottom rung BMW that still costs over $50,000 just to get everything that it should've had at $36k to begin with. So what are you paying $40k for?
The propeller on the hood and its notorious unreliability and 4 figure repairs.
People need to wake up and realize that BMWs are a horrendous waste of money compared to most/all other brands out there. Nor are they really exclusive when every fourth car on the road is a BMW. I see at least 20 3 series cars each and every day, no exaggeration.
BMW just has clever marketing but they quit giving a **** about building "The Ultimate Driving Machine" about 25 years ago and have been milking it ever since while crapping out mediocre cars at retarded prices because people don't know any better and will pay what they ask. I know, I've owned two of them.
