So I had this on preorder from Amazon, B&H, and Adorama, for three months, two months, and a month respectively. I got an email from Amazon yesterday saying they don't know when they'll get one, so now there is no estimated delivery date. B&H has apparently got a backorder of 2 months for the regular D800.
Yesterday, as I was looking at Best Buy's site for a cheap cable, I decided what the heck, let's see if I can preorder from Best Buy! Maybe even get some points in. Well their description said "Not available. Sold out online" but when I clicked the link, there was an "Add To Cart" button available. I figured it was just for a preorder.
Anyways, it shipped out today. I got free expedited shipping (Premier Silver), so it's arriving tomorrow morning. Needless to say, I'm pretty stoked.

It's a real nice leather backpack. The main selling point for me was I can detach the shoulder straps and turn into a briefcase. Great versatility for street and professional wear.

I'm jealous!!! My lowly D40X needs to be upgraded!
It's a pretty nice camera. The grip is uncomfortable to use after a while compared with the full-size models (D3/D4) but otherwise the image quality and performance is extremely good.

I've used it some today. They did seem to have rearranged a lot of things and the feel is different compared to the D700. I'm getting used to it. With longer lenses I do use a battery grip to help with the balance and gripping. Otherwise the camera feels excellent by itself.
I am very happy with it. I especially like the ability to save the video and JPEGs to the SD card whilst recording RAW to the CF card. Performance and image quality is definitely an improvement.
