13-inch, Mid-2010 MacBook Pro
2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo
4GB memory
minor defects and an unpleasant keyboard layout

Nothing that can't be fixed, and a real bargain - even if you factor in a new battery and keyboard. :)

Picked it for $39 open box at Best Buy, to go with my 15" Retina I'll be ordering next week. I wanted an extra charger to leave at my desk and one for my bag. It'll be my first Mac, I'm so excited!

Was going to be recycled, but they let me have it for $10. Purchase a GB of RAM for $10 as well, plus a 40GB HDD for $1. Only problem: missing fans. Important ones...

Also:
Core Duo 1.83GHz, 2GB RAM, 80GB HDD

Will be used as a Media Server with Plex.
Both bought at UI Surplus.

hmmm, ive noticed your from canada, funny you say that cause here in the u.s. cargo shorts at the knee are very common and the only people who use those long shorts at mid calf are girls which are known here in the states as "capri pants"

'Here in the US' includes a lot of places that aren't Detroit, and that is the only mistake I made. ;)
Your equating Windsor with Canada is more forgivable, as millions of midwesterners do it all the time. :D

What is that?

It's a device that makes a bluetooth connection between my keys and my iPhone. If either go out of a pre-set range, an alarm goes off. There are a number of other features and ways it can be used...with a child, for example.

There was a sidebar story about the item here on MR a couple of weeks ago.

Caveat: it's a little expensive, but worth it for me.:D

DirecTV... Ditched Comcast tv... Still have them for Internet. Got a Genie whole home DVR that can record 5 things at once, just in time for the Super Bowl. We love it so far.

Ah I see that's cool. I always thought those key alarms were silly because if you lose the device to set it off you're still screwed, but if it connects to your phone that's pretty useful.

And if you lose your keys and phone chances are you have a landline to ring your phone on :p

I'm jealous. Not so much of the TIG, but a place to put it and the deuce I don't have. ;)
And the Unix I do use is only PC BSD. Plus OS X of course.

Oh, and I purchased stuff for three of my four aquaria:

Broke my old Bold on Saturday, had to get a new phone with 50% savings on the monthly plan, contract free.

Not sure about winning the lottery yet, but feels pretty good :)

I took a little punt with the new Asus BRD, but I'm very pleased with it..it's rock solid, reads everything and writes reliably too. Sorry about the messy desk..It's still got two Imac's living on it..:)
