My washer and dryer have arrived! Photo of them in situ.

Since the earlier discussion of the care and feeding of these marvelous devices proved so incredibly popular, I wanted to continue that fascinating discussion...

Wait...er...never mind!:p

First thing to do.
1. purchase two longer stainless steel braided burst proof water lines with the flow sense shut-off in the event of a burst.
Reason: rubber hose washer lines do not last long and is the number one reason for water damage inside a home.
2. Purchase a longer nice quality flex gas line along with a longer exhauset pipe.
Reason: If you do this, you can swap the washer and dryer and have the doors open towards the wall. This will allow you to move the wet cloths from the washer to the dryer easy.

I hope you didn't just jinx me. My washer and dryer is upstairs, bought them about 5 years ago and have the original rubber hoses on them. Guess I will have to buy some hoses this weekend.

One thing I don't want is a leak upstairs, I wouldn't care if it was in the basement!

First...thanks for your suggestions. I really appreciate that you took the trouble to offer the information.:D

The washer came with stainless steel braided water lines...no flow sensors, but I always turn of the water supply after using the machine. The dryer came with a flex gas line, but I doubt that it is long enough for switching sides. Anyway, they are in place and I'm not doing any switching now! Moving the laundry from washer to dryer, around the doors, is done with exceptional grace and efficiency! :p

I, too, would suggest stainless steel braided hoses. I don't have flow sensors, but if you simply turn off the water supply with the valves where the hoses attach after using the washer (really not an odious or time consuming task, I've been doing it for many years as a safety measure), you cannot have any water flow even if the hoses break or leak. I asked the installer about flow sensor hoses, and he said that even if you use them, turning off the water supply is the safest procedure.

My water supply is directly behind the washer (with a dryer on top of it), with about 2 inches of space to the left and about 6 inches of space to the right of them. Now I wish it was accessible, would be nice if it was on the side of the machine. I was checking out these flow sensors and they have a lot of bad reviews. A lot of shut offs when there is no leak. I wonder if there is a decent brand.

I saw that very same red/yellow car thingy yesterday at my friends house who bought it for their baby son too!

All I "wanted" was a $39 adapter. After driving 80 miles and visiting four stores to locate the adapter, it came to light that I own the only car stereo in existence known to mankind that doesn't work with it (at least the battery was flat and it didn't charge it -> useless). Even after replacing the adapter.

So, now I own a new car stereo. That has the exact same functionality, except it makes it look like you're talking to yourself when you're driving via Bluetooth. And optional blue lighting. And a front USB iPod connection instead of a fixed 30-pin cord. $19 USB cable sold separately, of course, and it doesn't even contain Apple stickers.

Well, the sound is a bit better, but the music stutters every 30 seconds because it drops the (USB) connection. The equalizer presets are hidden in the menu and not accessible via a button on the front like on the old one, too.

I held off on buying the adapter for nine month. I just should've burned CDs or bought a $2 aux cable.

Nice.. Was he enjoying it? Hopefully I made the right decision(s). I really want to get him stuff he's going to use and like.

I've never been a fan of Sony decks. I have a Kenwood KDC-MP345U that I've had since 2010 that I bought with my graduation money. It still works to this day and it was never built to work with anything past iOS4 or Pandora/etc.

Just bought tickets to see this guy at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, GA (outside of Atlanta). It is Kristian Bush (of Sugarland fame). HUGE fan of his solo work.

I don't follow your post but what did you want an adapter for? To make your stereo Bluetooth without replacing it? Because I'm also looking for something like that.

For listening to music and charging while in the car. The old one had a cable with 30-pin dock connector, and I have an iPhone 5 with Lightning. The Bluetooth speakerphone was just a coincidence, there's the same stereo without Bluetooth for $10 less, too, called the CDX-GT560UI (in the US, you'd have satellite radio and Pandora Link, hence those two stereos are called CDX-GT570UP and MEX-BT3100P instead).

I've never been a fan of Sony decks. I have a Kenwood KDC-MP345U that I've had since 2010 that I bought with my graduation money. It still works to this day and it was never built to work with anything past iOS4 or Pandora/etc.

Sony is not particularly the problem, really. I bought the CDX-GT45IP when I still had my iPhone 3G, exactly four years ago, because it was the only stereo with an integrated 30-pin dock cable (sounded like a honking-great, clean idea back in 2009). I didn't have any complaints about it and I would've used it for another couple of years if the adapter would've worked. The quality of both the old and the new is really good, after all.

I just hope that some iOS beta in the next two weeks fixes the stutter every 30 seconds to one minute (I doubt that it's the stereo, Sony must've tested it and I can't find a single problem report about it online), otherwise this goes back to the store.

It should be best to just return the new stereo for a charger and an aux cable anyways, and then upgrade to Sony's or whoever's single-DIN "PRISM iOS in the Car" solution once they become available. The whole implementation of contemporanean car stereos is quite 90ies, and that's regardless of whether you look at Sony, JVC, Pioneer, Clarion or most other stuff around.

Got it from milandirect.co.uk, who might not be the most on-the-ball retailers out there, but they get there in the end.

As for the quality, it's not bad considering it's a replica and about 10% the price of an original. The top is decent 20mm thick tempered glass that weighs a ton and the wooden base is finished off quite well. Overall I'm quite happy and it certainly looks very nice in t living room.

:apple:

I have an early 2011 MPB, with the stock 4GB of RAM. I just downloaded the new iSTAT Menu 4, which sits on my Menu Bar, and noticed that even with my relatively light use, I was using about 95% of Memory, and with just 1 day, 10 hours of uptime, I had 288,000 of page outs...so I figured some more RAM was needed.

I bought 16GB of RAM and a tool kit. My MBP is much happier now.
