Certainly not the most fun way to spend a ****load of money...but necessary, nonetheless.

Conti Extreme Contact DWS 225/40ZR18 tires (in case you didn't guess!).

You really have to see them IRL to appreciate how aggressive the tread pattern is. I might even be able to go 10 feet in my car on snow before I get sideways.

(Sorry about the picture...the best I could find)

I purchased those in June of 2012 and miss them dearly. I drove on them until I could barely see the D indicator. I ended up with the Cooper ZEON RS3-A for my next set of rubbers. They're a decent tire, but they sure aren't the Continental DWS. I'm getting pretty close to needing tires again and I'm going back to the Continental DWS. I'm trying to make these last until closer to fall so I can see how they truly perform in the snow this winter. The first set had almost 6 months of wear before any snow and they still performed better than the Coopers did with only 4 months of wear this year. It's kind of sad I'm excited to buy tires again because I know I'm going back to quality product. German engineering I guess.

Picked up these bad boys on eBay for just under £200

HP Mediasmart Server ex795 and a DataVault X510.

I use FreeNAS for all of my local storage, but at that price I couldnt say no. I aboslutely love the form factor on these.

The X510 will be upgraded to Home Server 2011. The EX795 will either run Home Server v1 or openBSD.

I loved Windows Home Server back in the day ... :(

Both of them, under £200? What exact specs, do they have any HDD space right now?

the EX is old - has a single core AMD chip (32bit), super slow

the X510 has a decent dual core intel chip (branded as a Pentium) 2GB RAM.

The came with x2 500GB drives.

Upgraded to the 2014 version of the 13'' Macbook Air, coming from the 2011 version. Wanted the long battery life.

Some fees today at the US Consulate in Sydney. One for me and one for the wife. On the plus side my working visa is approved and I already received a positive notification on my recent job application so we will be moving to the USA in the next three to four weeks, for the next three to five years!

Excited and very nervous at the same time.

Just ordered this Orrefors crystal bowl to hold sugar cubes for absinthe and be displayed in the Absinthe Corner on my counter.

Image

A special bowl just for holding sugar cubes for absinthe. Wow.

(Somehow, I get the weird feeling that this wonderfully delectable spirit has captured a corner of your heart……and for some strange reason this does not surprise me in the slightest. It is a little like coffee; you just know in advance those will come to enjoy absinthe……..and, likewise, have little difficulty identifying those who won't. Ever.)

Actually, you are even worse than I am - far, far worse - and I didn't know such a thing was possible - for ordering beautifully crafted (and - almost - exquisitely useless) objects. And that is saying something…..

Not enjoying alcoholic drinks either for taste or effect is quite understandable. But not liking coffee...!?

"almost - exquisitely useless"...excuse me, but having my sugar cubes immediately available and on beautiful display...and absolute necessity. ;)

Well, OK...maybe not an absolute necessity....:p

Actually, I am a fan of sugar cubes, in both absinthe (and yes, yes, I know, I know, a form of heresy this, but also in espresso and other coffees)……

Mind you, while I am fond - very fond - of a nice glass of (rich red wine/XO cognac/aged whiskey/luscious artisan beer - delete as appropriate), coffee is found in a different category altogether, one which transcends luxury…….instead, simply being one of life's utter necessities….

What area are you moving to? Sounds exciting.

Bought a pair of Oakley eyeglasses today. Couldn't be happier with them.
