Folger Tech Prusa i3 3d printer kit. I wanted to get into 3d printing without breaking the bank, and still have a decent print size.

Too bad I couldn't get the IMAX version of the poster, but oh well. My daughter will love it for Christmas. This and the Humble Books My Little Pony bundle for my daughter. This year for her is all My Little Pony and Minecraft stuff.

My Amazon Echo arrived today. It took all of 5 minutes to set up. I love it! The first question I asked Alexa was, what's the weather. She responded with my local weather and a bit of a forecast!

Next, I asked Alexa if she knows who Siri is. She did!! She told me that Siri is Apple's virtual assistant and phone control interface. As of this posting, I found no Echo app in Apple's app store. I can stream music with my iPhone, though.

I downloaded the free app on my Kindle Fire HD, and watched a short video describing some of the amazing things the Echo can do. Things like setting a timer while cooking (gaming), listening to a bunch of radio stations, or Prime Music which has thousands of songs I can stream for free (with Prime membership).

It comes with a remote so that if you're too far away, or there is a lot of ambient noise, you can still ask Alexa things. The Echo is about the size of 2 pop cans stacked. A bit bigger in circumference. The top has a light ring that lights up in orange or blue, depending on the action at the time. The lights spin around in a wave. It's so cool.

When you're asking Alexa a question, the lights are blue. It plugs in via included AC adapter, and even comes with a magnetic remote holder and a re-usable sticky tape to mount it wherever you want.

I'm impressed, to say the least. Just my initial observations. :)

I'm surprised that people are buying this. It strikes me as an in-home Amazon sales assistant. I buy quite a bit from Amazon, mostly books but this is too eerily like Amazon are closer to subletting your living room with full access to your wallet.

Sadly, I think if this had a Google badge on it, there would be a massive backlog of orders.

What do you think of the sound quality of the speaker when playing music?

Best Buy or Amazon had some great sales on these!

Yes!! I have the 2011 version (un55d8000) in the living room. A bit overkill for my bedroom but the price difference between the 46 and 55 was just 100 bucks. I'll probably end up switching them around and bring the older one to the bedroom since the glasses for my older set have to be recharged constantly (bit of a pain for spontaneous watching) and these new ones don't (battery powered, also they're not compatible IIRC).

Logitech M557 Bluetooth mouse.

Another one for my mouse farm, it's my third Bluetooth mouse. I have an Apple Magic Mouse but it hurts my hand after an hour or so. Normally I use a small Dell Bluetooth mouse but I got this one for backup.

It seems to track very accurately, and the specs say the batteries last a year. The wheel does not roll smoothly as they use the old-fashioned clicky wheel, I will probably remove the spring that gives the click ratchet action so I get a nice freerolling wheel action.

Specs say Max OS X is supported (as well as Windows) and I will see if I can customize the mouse settings for Mac tomorrow. It works as a basic mouse after only a Bluetooth pairing procedure, but I want to program the "Windows" button and the response to the wheel left/right tilt pressure,

Potentially the M557 will become my favourite mouse.

Nice, been looking for a good bluetooth mouse and had to go back to the microsoft 5000 used on eBay. Maybe I will pick this one up.

Some "black friday" shopping after dinner with the family. Picked up some "new" movies, a second controller ($35 bucks), some shirts and fleece sweaters and clothes for the kids.

I also picked up a pay as you go mobile hot spot for 50% off and it came with 1GB data free so that was pretty good.

I picked up a bluetooth mouse for my macbook a while back as well, it's white like the Apple one but a different brand, and from reading others' reviews, the one I have is much better, hope yours is as well.

Well I guess I was not "selected" to be one of the first ones to buy this product, I saw it on Amazon and clicked on it and said to wait a few weeks to see if I was chosen, so is it worth the $100?

I used my AMEX through USAA MemberShop to earn some rewards and save money on a few things for this Black Friday sales day. I bought a wallet and a belt which I am in need of for myself and then a few gifts for others, which I won't post here. ;)

Very nice; and well wear.

I must say that I really like very good quality (soft) leather, and have quite frequently bought a decent belt and wallet combination for myself if I liked the products in question.

I'm in need of a belt as the one I have is really showing its age. The wallet is more of a want, less of need right now, but with the sale they had, I said why not.

Finally upgraded my 2009 base model 13" MBP (2.2GHZ 2 GB ram) for a new base model mid 2014 15" rMBP! :D a local authorized dealer was having a nice black friday deal that included 18 month interest free financing ( which was what made me go that route) along with $75 off I also picked up apple care as well. It cost me $2441 out the door. I am still getting things set up and checking things out. I am very happy so far! :D It came with Mavericks 10.9.4 I just may keep it that way since I have not decided to upgrade to Yosemite yet. My iMac is even sitting with Mavericks 10.9.5 still.

Just came in the mail!

a little holiday shopping

Amazon gift card for the brother in law and the Star Wars OT blu ray dvd set for us during the lightning deals yesterday.

I am okay with multiple dips of the original Star Wars trilogy (especially the first two) but I cannot see paying $90+ for the boxed set from a couple of years ago when I can barely sit through the prequels now.

@STidrvr: cool! Is it pretty easy to use?

Can you keep me/us informed about your observations? I'm interested in the product.

Will do. :)

What do you think of the sound quality of the speaker when playing music?

The sound quality is better than I was expecting. Good overall, and gets pretty loud. I would compare it to the Bose Soundlink Mini in sound quality.

Well I guess I was not "selected" to be one of the first ones to buy this product, I saw it on Amazon and clicked on it and said to wait a few weeks to see if I was chosen, so is it worth the $100?

I think it's absolutely worth the $199 regular price, and the $99 I paid was a bargain. It's a very decent speaker that talks, and makes it possible to multitask with ease. I haven't tried all the features yet, but being able to say, "Play Evanescence" (or whatever band you fancy), and having it do just that, and almost instantly, is awesome.

I've purchased a lot of music from Amazon (it's DRM free), and I can also upload my other music to their servers. This makes choosing my music to play by voice commands work seamlessly. But having the entire Amazon Prime music catalog at my disposal is the best part, imo. Now I only purchase music if I want to listen to it when I drive or run.
