Been eying up one of these Zojirushi rice cookers for a long time, finally ordered one today...

NS-TSQ10.jpg

Which model? Let me know how you find it, as I, too, have been debating buying one, as they get great reviews, and seem to be the proverbial "gold standard" in easy to use, but superbly constructed rice cookers.

Totem Dreamcatcher -bookshelf speakers and a Nuforce DDA-100 Dac/Amp to drive them.

Setup sounds amazing and detailed, with just enough of bass, also looks good on my desk so couldn't be happier ^^

Its the NS-TSQ10 which is the 1-5 cup size model. Wasn't sure whether to buy the smaller 1=3 cup size model as there are only three of us. but chose the larger one in the end.

Its an awful lot of money simply to cook rice, but I get inconsistent results with the traditional method and I've not read a bad review about this brand.

Bought it from this UK supplier..

Ah, yes. The 1-3 cup model, or the 1-5 cup model. That has been one of my dilemmas, too.

No, I've not read a bad review about the company or its products, either, and I will be fascinated to read how you find it, as I am seriously debating ordering one when I am next home.

I shall be sure to let you know how I get on, as have spent over a year trying to decide whether to commit to this purchase, due to the cost .

I expect a period of trial and error before getting perfect results, which is why today I purchased a 10kg sack of aged basmati rice. Ive warned the wife to expect to be eating lots of home made Chinese and Indian meals over the next few weeks/months :D

Good luck with it, and I hope you enjoy your Chinese and Indian meals (two cuisines that I really love).

One of the things that reviews have mentioned is - apparently - how easy (relatively) it is to be able to produce extremely good quality rice from the outset.

In any case, I look forward to hearing from you how you got on with it; how the rice tasted; how easy it was to operate and to master the instructions on how to use it.

I look forward to reading your posts on the subject.

This monster will be mine on Monday. I'm excited. It was just released. I also took advantage of Directv's Apple TV Offer.

TCL 6 Series 55R617 and Apple TV 4k 32GB

Sorry, when I first saw this post, I thought you had bought a bridge, - calling to mind all of the cliches associated with such purchases - until I realised that the purchase - and picture - in question described a television.

In the 46yrs I have existed on this planet, I don't think I've ever said these words before, and I say them with an element of embarrassment, but here goes...

'Thats a great looking washing machine.'

Yes, you have entered a different stage in your life when you find yourself comparing and researching and examining different brands and models of washing machines, and cookers, and fridges with the intensity and concentration you once devoted to say - music, or fantasy literature.

It arrived today. Thats quite a fast delivery service.

Being an overly excited man with a new toy, I completely ignored the instruction manual and immediately set to work cooking rice...

I filled the bowl with water up to the specified mark, and added two cups (cup supplied) of basmati rice that I had rinsed with water. Sadly the finished result was disappointingly mushy :(. But a quick glance of the instruction manual revealed I had used far too much water as I should have put the rice into the bowl first, and then added water up to the mark. The following batch, made correctly but this time with just one cup of rice was very good indeed. As it was only mid afternoon and not yet time for dinner I spread the rice out on a plate and placed in the refrigerator to cool and dry, and later used it to make egg fried rice. Very nice it was too.

Further experimentation to follow :)

Thank you for taking the time to post this; very much appreciated, and read with interest.

Your tale of not reading the instruction manual was very funny, but quite understandable, in the circumstances.

Yes, this, too.

I was going to comment on this. I love mine, but it took me a while to find the right water amount. I prefer latin-style rice which is closer to the harder Indian style than to the mushy Japanese style, so I learned not to follow their measurements.

Every type and brand of rice requires a slightly different amount of water. It's best to keep records once you found what that is. Then, results should be consistent.

The 2nd batch I made was much better, but still very slightly on the wet side, and some of the grains were stuck together instead of all been individual. I shall experiment with reducing the amount of water and see how it goes. I also wonder what effect it has on the rice if it is left on 'keep warm' mode for a while?
