5 of these bad boys. Picking up order in person this week. Going to test them for about 5-6,000 hours before ordering another 11 to 15 of them.

Building out another home NAS. Enclosures are great, but you're paying a lot of upfront cost for convenience. Though you could stick these in most Synology ready to go units or anything similar.

Edit: Yikes, my bad, Kram. I didn't read your post carefully. For a ready to go unit, I would recommend either Western Digital or Synology. They also have single disk units, with WD there's the EasyStore which comes in 8 TB or 10 TB flavors. They also have a NAS in various drive counts with various RAID choices. The max limits on those are 32 TB and 40 TB.

I like WD for their drives. Seagate's professional drives or rather their high-end drives are fantastic. Otherwise, QNAP or Synology are brands I recommend people go after more than WD if they want a ready solution. In any case, these things these days use NAS grade drives. And you can set them up with Plex and watch home movies, your personal owned film rips, music, etc.

With Synology, some of their units are scalable. Which means you can start with a modest unit and add more expansion variants of them over time without buying a new enclosure with the amount of drives you need or want.

Yes, it works well for hammering fencing staples into posts. As often as not, though, I use the side of the tool to to that, as it gives more control over the angle, and those staples can be tough to hammer in straight.

Just came back from Paris with SQ...so I just booked another flight for Christmas and chose the following:

I love this airline company so much, even the safety video is breathtaking:

Awesome airline, in fact, the only airline I'd choose for long distance flight. Just got back from the USA using a non-stop SIN-LAX route (SQ35). Couldn't ask for a better service in an airline. Meal was awesome, in-flight stewardess treated me like a king and lastly entertainment was on point.

For me it will always be the number 1 airline, even though Qatar Airways has been recently voted best. It’s just crazy the difference of service between US airlines & SQ, it’s like a European low cost company.

You were lucky to fly SQ to LAX, I had to fly UA to SFO, my company took couldn’t let me chose SQ! 14 hours direct flight to go there...17 hours back

Putting these in servers? Nice bit of kit!
Home NAS. Going to store our digital media as a redundancy. Give it another 2-3 years and these should be significantly cheaper. They're barely a year old on the market. The 16 TB version came out this month and bumped the price on these down a little. Still fairly expensive.

Mechanical drives are going to be the gold standard for long term storage for a very long time until solid state can equalize in price per GB.

That said, once I set them up it'll take at least 24 hours to populate. This is where SSDs or even PCIe SSDs are way better but cost a handsome sum. The card in addition to motherboard ports cost several hundred dollars, too. I could have bought certified refurbished, but I didn't want to take any risks. Even if it meant saving $200-300.

The cost of thumb drives is a joke, too. I remember spending about $40-50 on a mediocre thumb drive maybe 13 years ago, and now I can get 128 GB or 256 GB 3.0/Type C sticks for the same cost. Truly a wonder.

Now I understand why you were so keen on getting the kids moved out and off to college. :p

I've never met Kram, and can't say whether he's surly or not, but he seems nice enough.

unfortunately, still have a 13 year old at home. the gaming systems are for her.

and some may say that I'm surly. just depends on how much of an ass you are. :D
