Duuude, what the hell do you do for a living? :O
Oh I don't know. It's been so long that I really did any real gaming. But Armored Warfare and World of Tanks come to mind. Plus, probably a lot of old school favorites of mine like Quake III Arena, Half-Life 2, Battlefield 2, the original Medal of Honor series like Spearhead and the Command & Conquer games.
A brief description of how I ordered it all is a page or so back. Or you can just believe that I get off by lying, on the internet, so I can feel cool or something, as Alf below you eludes to.
But to answer your question, I'm a musician. Sometimes I make some really good money, and sometimes I'm pretty broke. For times like that, I do other jobs on the side. It's that simple.
I don't think Alf was attacking you per se. And Im not defending him either.
Its just that a question like the one you were asked reeks of a 15 year old, new to the ways of the world.
Perhaps new to the concepts of saving for ones purchases, or even crippling credit card debt.
He was half expecting you to say, Im a billionaire entrepreneur who owns Wayne enterprises.
Instead most people have boring"sounding" jobs, and knowing what one does for a living is of no real use to determine how said person paid for some stuff online.
Also, not believing everything on the internet is pretty sound advice.
Finally, we are all just a bit jealous of your wife![]()
OH NO, for the record I wasn't taking offense to Alf's reply. I was just being silly while covering my own ass (I need to use those faces more often). I agree with you completely though. It is sound advice and knowing what someone does for a living, is no indication about their financial status. That's why I threw in that I DO go broke sometimes, when work is hard to find.
In a nutshell, I would say, whatever it is you do, save, work hard on other skills, network, invest in anything possible to resell later, and definitely use credit cards, but very wisely, and make sure you have 50% of what you intend to spend on said card. Keep things at resell value condition and sell them before they are obsolete, never buy anything you want, only things you really need, and from time to time REALLLLLLY want, and things you really want that you can make money off of. All of the little things in between should be left alone. If you do it right, by the end of a couple years, anybody can have 20,000 in assets, and a few thousand in savings. One thing I did, was buy things I don't want, or need off of craigslist at killer prices, and then resell them for still fair prices, but below market price. Things like ammo, gun accessories, silver and gold coins (which is right now good to buy but not sell), computer equipment, broken things that people don't know how to fix... And most importantly, when you can, buy used or refurbished.
I'm going to stay on topic in this thread, with an example.
I just bought myself a 42mm Apple watch off of B&H for 350, no tax, and free shipping with a 50 dollar gift hard. I wanted a nylon band and a tough case to protect it for resell. With the one I got my wife, and self, it comes out to 650 for both watches. After using the B&H gift cards ($100) on a christmas gift we planned on buying anyway, it's technically like we got both watches for 550. Hell of a deal!
Then I was looking for a good nylon band for my watch. I found a really nice velcro nylon band for 75 dollars. I probably would have bought it, but from my experience, things can always be had for cheaper, SOME WHERE. So after about 30 minutes searching, I figured instead of typing in "Nylon Apple watch band", I'll just type in "nylon watch band". Well I found the same exact band for 8 dollars. Then I bought the watch band adapters for 8 dollars. Both of these together are exactly what was being sold for 75, and I got it for 16.
