I’ve moved house and also changed my Mac mini to a 2018 i5. Dell QHD monitors changed to LG 27UP850-W.

I just got a new desk, one that moves up and down, so here's my current setup:

From left to right:
  • Gaming PC (built in 2018; i5-8500, GTX 1660 Super, Lian-Li PC-TU100)
  • Wii U with 240GB SSD
  • Dell U2713HM (27", 2560x1440, with speakers)
  • Microsoft All-in-One Media Keyboard (for gaming PC)
  • Apple Watch 3 (magnetic charging cable sticks nicely to metal monitor stand)
  • AirPods 2 on Lightning Dock
  • Ikea Elloven monitor stand (wooden drawer removed while using MacBook, to avoid overheating)
  • 2018 MacBook Pro 15" (work computer)
  • USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter (to add USB-A port to MacBook)
  • Microsoft Wireless Mouse 900 (for gaming PC)
  • Apple Wireless Keyboard & Magic Trackpad (for Mac mini)
  • 960GB & 1TB & 2TB SSDs (two storage drives, 2TB home drive for Mac mini)
  • 2018 Mac mini (my personal computer)
  • 2004 iPod (monochrome screen) & EarPods
  • Magic Keyboard & Magic Trackpad 2 (for MacBook)
  • Satechi Eco-Leather Deskmate
Because the desk surface is surprisingly rough to the touch, I bought this desk mat. It feels nice and I enjoy working on it, the only problem is that it's far too narrow at just 60x30cm. I asked in this other thread, but can anyone recommend a similar desk mat that's ~90cm wide and no more than 45cm deep? There are many options out there, so I'd appreciate any help in narrowing them down to ones that both feel nice and are well made.

You've forgot to mention the drink as well as what looks like LEGOs. ?

Probably no way of avoiding this sounding like a dumb question - but what is the square 'dock' thing (which I see in review videos / photos etc - though no one ever alludes to it) that the Mini is sitting on?
That one in particular looks like a “Type-C Aluminum Stand for Mac Mini - Hub/Docking Station”, it’s a USB hub and SD card reader that has the same footprint as the Mac mini, you can stack it above or below.

There are also models that have space inside for a single 2.5” SATA hard drive / SSD, but none that I know of that contain several M.2 NVMe slots for multiple SSDs.

Loving the Wii U! I still have mine hooked up!

Thanks. Considerably cheaper than it looks - and (as would be the case with me) allowing USB-A connectivity! (And, er, connectivity round at the front :))

What are those hard drives to the right of the Elloven monitor stand? The look nice.
Do you have a link to them? I’m curious about the performance.

Nice setup btw.

Thx.

It was a really nice console, I still use it to play Mario Kart 8 and Rock Band 2.

Though I can play games on the 27” monitor, both the Wii U and PC are also connected to a projector, so usually I play on the wall you can see behind the desk, there’s a sofa sitting opposite it.

Yep, and maybe using those front USB-A ports instead of the ones on the back of the Mac mini might avoid any Bluetooth interference.

Said interference is why I have my Mac mini angled at 45°, I was unable to use the keyboard and trackpad otherwise. However, I just tried straightening things out and they work fine again, so nevermind ?

Thank you, and those are generic USB-C 2.5” enclosures that I got from Amazon for 11€ each, though that specific model seems to be discontinued.

I stuck them together with double sided tape, so they stand up nicely as a unit, but the downside compared to a proper raid system is that they use up three USB ports.

They look like the OWC drive enclosures to me ?

Those look like higher-quality versions of the ones I got. They’re pretty flimsy, but since they stay sitting on my desk rather than being used as portable drives, they’re okay for my purposes.

The drink is water, the LEGO set on top of the Mac mini is a bonsai tree, and the robot on the monitor stand is the Chibi-Robo amiibo.
Smoothbit I was very impressed with your set-up, especially with your LEGO Bonsai Tree. After thinking about it's possible calming effect, I was motivated to order one myself! Will post next week.

I have one of those Huawei 28” monitors, I really like it and use it with my works Windows laptop. I was toying with the idea of maybe getting a Mac Mini if they give it the option of the Pro and Mac chips, how do you find the monitor works with Mac OS? Did it scale well? Is it good quality compared to Apple's own screens like the Apple laptop you have?
I was looking at the new MacBook Pro, but a new Mini would save me cash and offer better value.

Yes it works perfectly with the mini. There was no problem.
