Wow! But I couldn't work so close to a screen that big. Don't you have to move your head constantly?
PS: Nice wallpaper you've got there :)
Nope. It's not too bad. The biggest main is moving the mouse around. It's basically an arm workout. lol.

As much as I loved looking at my Mini on the desk, I still like a clean setup. Thanks to my desk (Bluelounge StudioDesk), this was possible:

The Mini is now hiding inside the desk, with easy access to the backside. Thermally speaking, it may not be the best solution, but the compartment does have ventilation holes for airflow. However, I rarely run the Mini hot, and I can always open the lid up if I need to.

OK. If its a clean setup you want then:

1/ Hide the display cable.
2/Get rid of sill models.
3/Get rid of pots on window sill.
4/Hide light cable.
5/Get translucent blind for window (to help offset lighting & cable 7handle imbalance).
6/Change speakers - new ones should be identical (not switches etc on one only).

Thats about it in your situation but if you could move whole thing to a symmetrically lit ares that would be good and obviously the walls should all be equidistant from the desk:D.

Personally the search was given up years ago (for perfect layout) - now I just keep my head down as much as possible so that the input to each eye is pretty much the same:cool:.

What speakers are those?

Thought it would be neat to see how everyone has their Minis setup. The thread on Johnathan Morrison's setup got me wondering how everyone here has their Minis arranged on their desk and what components they use. I'll go first of course:

This is just a work in progress, as I had a dual monitor setup with my Mac Pro previously. Am upgrading my desk and will report back at a later time when it's all finished.

Let's see some of your setups!

2 x Dell 24" 1920x1200 (U2415 / U2413)
Das Keyboard 4 pro
Logitech m510 mouse
mini i5/16/512

Seeing all of these setups is making me want to pull the trigger on the Mini. . . I have a 2018 MacBook Pro that likes to (sometimes) crash when it goes to sleep with my 4k UltraFine(s) connected. . . I realize that in buying a mini I am essentially rewarding Apple for not fixing the T2 issues, and of course, the Mini might do the exact same thing since it has the T2 as well now.

My question for you mini owners. . . The only requirement(s) I really have are for the hex core i5, and minimum 256gb SSD. Would you just go for the $1099 model and upgrade the ram yourself, or should I consider the $1299 model, and just get 16gb out the gate? It doesn't look too terribly difficult to install, but of course I worry about voiding the warranty in upgrading the ram myself.

I got the 16GB from the start. I was surprised to see that all I do I is have multiple Chrome browsers and tabs open and I started using 12G-13G of ram. But no big deal it seem to handle it fine still. But I saw 32GB kit for not too much on Amazon and decided to upgrade. So if you see yourself potentially needing more ram I'd get the 8G kit Apple sells and then buy 3rd party and install/upgrade yourself. It's far more cost saving to do it that way.

That's what I was thinking. . . I've watched the videos and it didn't seem too terribly difficult to pull off.

Yeah it's super easy. If you've built any Windows PC or at least did RAM swaps in older MACs it really super easy. Just use the right bits. I have the iFixit tool kit so made it even easier.

Have the needed drivers, just not the spudger to remove the antenna / connectors. But they are available cheap on amazon.

I was also questioning the insane ram usage, but apparently Mac OS and Linux (because they have similarities) will use every single bit of ram, even if they aren't needed. Was told this by several people in another thread. Also, someone said they has 16GB of ram, and had 5GB spare, but when they went 32GB, they used more than 11GB ram.

Yeah after I upgraded to 32GB I see it hovers at 20GB usage. I reboot to clear, but it goes right back

Haha, great suggestions! I’m thinking clean in a non-extreme manner though... :D

And yeah, I’m not as obsessive about my setup nowadays either. It used to be much worse—aligning everything with a measurement tape. Now I just eyeball it. ;)

In have the same setup with the LG4KUF as well. I ordered with 16gigs ram.
Lightroom CC is the most demanding software I run and the computer hums along nicely. No problems with the monitor waking up from sleep, going to sleep or powering up/down.

My only complaint is my hard wired keyboard and bluetooth magic 2 mouse are slow to engage at bootup (wakeup is good)

I have the same complaint, i've got the Apple wireless keboard, touchpad and mouse.. takes so long to connect for a while i thought i had a hardware issue of somekind. Heyho, once connected, they're super lush to use.
