Man ... that 512k Mac needs a LOT more love than what you're giving it.

VERY curious about power consumption of the M1 macs vs 512k Mac in standby and in full tilt. Very curious how they compare to one another. Sure software is a LOT more powerful today then back then, but still would be interesting.

I had a Mac Plus I think and the monitor was integrated into the computer so you have the power of the CRT as well as the computer.

I want a new desk. 1000wx600dx750h mm..

Solid minimal construction/no draws etc.. Wooden top >25mm thick. Black preferred. I will add under desk cable storage with power supply only needing to be hidden behind one leg.

Any suggestions UK Only Please - budget <£200 including delivery to Highlands of Scotland.

I have looked at IKEA etc. with no success so far.

Thank you.

Ohh this for my new M1 Mac mini setup.

Have you tried Wayfair? I have got a lot of budget office stuff from there and it's all been solid.

Alternatively you can get some good desks on Etsy.

I needed a desk back in 1980 so I bought a desktop and two filing cabinets and these have been my desk for the past forty years. I splurged on a nice Steelcase chair for $200 and I still use it today. $200 was a lot for an office chair back then.

My company closed several facilities in the 1990s and they moved the furniture to a warehouse and offered the furniture to employees for $20 to $40. I got two long equipment tables that will probably hold 500 - 1,000 pounds. I had to borrow a pickup truck to get them home. I got some chairs and bookcases as well. There are always companies going out of business or remodeling. Our building did a remodel last year and we threw out a ton of office chairs and desks. I asked if I could have or buy some but they said no.

Just awaiting my ultra wide monitor to arrive

I'm pretty new to using Mac Minis, but with a 6 core 2018 model here, I'm pretty surprised by how hot the case gets - I know its working as a heatsink, but other than having a bunch of productivity apps open, I'm not doing any heavy processing. iStat is showing all cores at about 80-85° which seems high? Or is this just how things are under Intel?

Intel ....

I built a PC last fall. One of the highest priorities was that it run cool. Three case fans and a huge air cooler on the CPU.

Runs at 26-33 degrees at load.

The mini form factor is not great for cool and quiet.

Thanks both, that's put my mind at ease but genuinely surprised by how hot the case gets!

LOL - but they work so well.

I was in Best Buy the other day, and noticed the SAME Bose speakers, in Black. That would certainly go more with my 'setup'. Now to explain to the Missus that I 'need those' :)
I have those Bose speakers in black... good sound for $100 speakers... they sit behind my under-the-cabinet-mounted monitor... out of sight.

It can be any country - explaining to Missus that why we need tech over tech is universal :) :)

Shouldn't be difficult to convince her. I have a pair of the same. They look stylish, sound great (rate well in reviews), have more than enough grunt to fill my reasonably sized apartment, and at about $100 are good value.

All I have to do is wait for my 2009 Mac Mini to to have a problem so that I can justify replacing it with the the latest one, but still on the original hard drive, the 2009 seems destined to keep on keeping on for a while longer, still on the original HDD!
