After using Jaguar for a few days, (out of curiosity, I installed it from my Power Mac's Software Restore discs) I can definitely say that Tiger is a HUGE improvement over the previous versions of OS X, including Panther. It runs way faster and has way less bugs. I wonder why Apple never fixed the bug in the Panther finder where icons would change around after about a day of uptime? (example: a QuickTime movie would have a Real Player icon, etc.)

Thank you Apple, for creating OS X. Had it not been for OSX I would not have switched when I did. I couldn't stand the look of OS 9, it looked so bland and just not as inviting as OS X. There have been many a-switcher because of OS X, and let's hope it keeps going! :)

This is from an install on a TiBook 500mhz lol its pretty snappy with 512 ram!

This is what Mac OS X looked like at the time when windows xp came out with its ugly kiddy fisher price theme! I can't believe how people will accept stuff like that! It just shows they'll take anything

Didn't have to accept it! I still use XP at work, I use the "Windows Classic" theme with a "Brick" color scheme. Nice comforting earth tones. Alas, it's no longer available in Vista/Windows 7. Those are the ones that force Fisher Price.

Yeah but Apple really hit the mark with Aqua! I got my first Mac with 10.3.4 on it and the aqua was really toned down :( I always wanted to live up the OS's from early 10 so I got a TiBook and installed 10.1 on it lol then upped to 10.2.8 :) im surfing on it the now its really sooo gorgeous!

I did use shapeshifter on my 10.3 and 10.4 to get the jag theme back but it doesn't seem to support intel 10.6:confused:

I do like and miss two things from that era...the simpler Dock (the whole 3D thing just doesn't work for me, especially since the icons are from a different perspective) and the very crisp shadows on the menu bar text. I use the alternate Dock hack (I forget what it's called exactly...uses the Terminal) to get the flat one like the vertical options, but still nice to look back in the past.

Kinda funny for all the people in this thread ripping on Mac OS 8/9 - Leopard and Snow Leopard seem to be moving more in that grey, understated direction...
