The back of beyond.
Now that I'm back from my week long ban for being Catholic....
Here is my new setup.
I just bought a 17" iMac for $500. I don't like relying on laptops since they tend to get the crap beat out of them.
It has a 250GB drive and I just ordered a 720GB Western Digital Green drive. I ordered the green since I want to make sure this thing doesn't overheat.

Note the eight year old UPS facing backwards so I can get at the plugs. :D

I like those desks.

I finally got done organizing my desk. I have some "before" pics (apologies for the terrible image quality, I had to use my phone):

And some "after" pics:

The area behind my monitor is not only used for hiding my external hard drives, but my speakers as well:

Even from behind there, they can still produce decent sound. They're not brilliant, but I'm no audiophile, and I certainly don't need sound better than my ears can hear.

Another crappy shot just 'cuz.

In the pics are a 15" C2D 2.16GHz MacBook Pro, PowerMac G4 933, 17" ADC, 15" 1.25GHz PowerBook G4, 28"(!) Hanns-G HG281D display (cheap, ~$300, and 16:10 :D), 5th-gen iPod nano, 2nd gen iPod touch, MX Revolution mouse (the old one, not the new crappier one), diNovo Keyboard Mac Edition, both types of Apple remotes, Epson WorkForce 600 AIO, generic speaker set. The external hard drives are 320GB (silver) and 1.5TB (black), using FW800 and FW400 respectively.

looks like and compact.

I personally prefer not to have anything at eye level on my desk but I do have to admit there is a sense of enclosure sometimes which can be good, helps you to focus.

I think corner desks are much harder to get right as well

Isn't that overkill by a little?
I'm getting a used Thecus RAID 1 NAS and I think it should be enough.
Unless its loud as balls...

Nice desk...I bought a glass desk as well and I'm not ever going back to wood desks.

I haven't finished it yet but i really like it too. Gemeplay reminds me of "UFO: Enemy Unknown" which i played through many times on the AMIGA.

What do you mean with "overkill"?
The 19" rack? I wanted a clean/easy solution for wiring my house so i got a rack and patchpanel to have a nice endpoint in the basement for my home network which goes up to the living room etc.

The NAS? I had a Synology 207+ (2 disks) the internal 1 TB drives filled up quickly... i upgraded with a 2 TB MyBook Studio 2 (2 TB) connected through eSATA the drive filled up quickly ... i replaced the whole thing with a Synology 509+ and have 1.3 TB free on the 7.6 TB partition.

3TB drives anyone??? :D

They can be.
What I mean is if that thing is too loud I'm putting it in the basement somewhere. I can't stand listening to fans constantly.
The Rack actually resides in the basement. :D There was enough space left to fit the NAS in and it is nearly inaudible there. I bought the fanless HP Pro Curve because the Netgear switch i had before was really loud.

It's obviously a Digitus, probably 9U? Like this one.
This should be the right one, i somehow only found the "german pages" so i didn't post a link. Nice find.
