I recall paying the same price for mine as the Mac Pro currently costs. Sheesh! Stupid me. I should've put that money into Apple stock! If I had put the $7k I blew on my Dual 800/22" into Apple shares I could afford a Ferrari right now :(

Being 14 and stupid FTW?

I wonder if I'll be in the same boat in 7 years :p (I just bought a Mac Pro with a 27" Cinema Display a few months back)

My parents would've shot me if I'd tried to drop that much $$$ on a computer when I was 14.

As it was, my dad was a little bothered I spent $1400 on a year-old MBP in 2008. But that was when the base MBP was $2k, so it was actually a really good deal :D

And then that Tuesday, the new models came out :p

Equipment list:
Apple 13" Macbook (late 2008) - 2.4Ghz, 500gb HD, 4Gb RAM
Apple iPhone 4
Apple Airport express running airtunes
Apple Mighty Mouse
Apple Universal Dock
Apple remote
Acer Monitor 22" White
Belkin 7 USB hub powered
Bowers & Wilkins 685's
Chord Carnival Silverscreen speaker cable with banana plugs
Canon 400d + accessories
Dell Inspiron 1501 - To multi-task with windows (on bookshelf)
HP Printer
Kenwood A-82 Stereo Integrated Amplifier (Acquired from dads old setup)
Sennheiser Headphones HD 205
Wacom Intuos 3 A4 wide
Western Digital My Book 1Tb

Running Plex Media Centre and iTunes for media.
Recently came across Plex Media Centre on here - brilliant and free!
Mostly 1080p video and lossless audio.

350 Movies, 10,000 songs, 15,000 photos & lots of TV programs...

Waiting on a delivery of some braided wire sleeving to hide the ton of wires going to the amp better. Pretty neatly hidden the equipment around the room. :) :) :)

Considering getting a new Amp - probably a surround amp but unsure as the music quality will drop opposed to a stereo hifi amp.
Other option is an xbox 360?

I thought its about time I post my home setup.

Just bought the 27" Cinema Display, its connected to my 13"MBP running in clamshell, sitting on the shelf on a cooling pad.

Apple bluetooth keyboard, Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse. Have 2 Apple battery chargers(not pictured) to power those 3.

1TB Seagate GoFlex with firewire 800 upgrade kit for backups using Carbon Copy Cloner sitting behind the lamp.

Creative Xmod that I use with my Bose OE headphones(headphones not pictured).

Also not pictured is my table at the other end of that wall with a Brother laser printer and Crosley radio, both hooked up to an Airport Express. And in a cabinet in another room I have an Airport Extreme with 2 Seagate 1TB drives for Time Machine and old file storage.

The sucky part about the 22" LCD was that it had a really high defect rate.

I recall paying the same price for mine as the Mac Pro currently costs. Sheesh!

Yeesh... don't remind me. The inverter board in mine started doing the blink on blink off starting around late 2003. It was really intermittent at first and happened maybe once a month. Then in 2005, the thing really went crazy and was off more than it was on. Back then, the company that sold parts rarely had the board for the 22" model (the inverter board went bad in my 17" Studio Display in 2003 and they had tons of those in stock) and I really needed a monitor so I just ended up buying the 20" Cinema Display (Aluminum). I bought the 22" along with my G4 Cube back in July 2000; the Cube was $1800 and the display around $2200... ouch!!!

Stupid me. I should've put that money into Apple stock! If I had put the $7k I blew on my Dual 800/22" into Apple shares I could afford a Ferrari right now :(

The amount of money I've spent on Apple products since I first started buying them in 1992-1993 (previously, had been a CP/M, DOS, OS/2 and unix gearhead) is hitting close to six figures now. If all that had been invested..... But back in 97, I did purchase several thousand bucks worth of AAPL when it was around $16 per share (pre split price basis) and accumulated a bunch between 1998-2000. Sold a quarter of my holdings after the internet bubble burst and let the rest ride even through the market doldrums that existed between 2001-2003 (didn't even considering dumping them back in 2003 when the stock had lost almost 80% of its value from its 2000 high as that for sure would have been locking in those paper losses). Those are now my core shares sitting in a Roth-IRA for retirement. Bought more between 2007 to mid-2010 (iPhone and iPad spurred those new positions) and seeing nice returns on that.

Just to bring this back on topic, the following pic was back in 2006 when I had just gotten the Mac Pro and I connected my QS G4 to the 22" ACD. It miraculously worked without having the case of the blinkies (that lasted for nearly two weeks before it went crazy again).

The Philippines...
now not to start a ppc vs intel flame war. but if it serves his purposes just fine why would he switch? for example my MDD works amazingly well and if it had a better graphics card it would be my main machine; why? because when you run software that is optimized for ppc (and most pro apps still are) they are blazing fast. as far as i can recall i could run fcp at a speed that rivaled my 13 mbp (before its gfx card died). anyway don't take this personally :p just pointing out a fact.

(if this starts a flame war i will seriously smack myself XD :p)

No offense taken anyway... I am more mature, I am not into Intel Mac stuff yet. Still find the challenge to keep this old machines working. And they worked fine with minimum upkeep.

If ever apple will decide to switch to another processor I might find the interest to take on Intel Macs and collect... :D

And it is not the only PPC machine that I have...

Trust me, when you hit 10 or so, you begin to start creating innovative methods of Mac Storage... (Yes, I have 15 of them, and yes, I am not done...) before you start collecting I recommend buying either a lot of shelves, or a lot of storage units...

Looks like you do a fair bit of typing on that thing!
My old one started looking like that but then Apple replaced it with a new one. I bought a keyboard cover. Not because I hate shiny keys, but because hair and stuff was falling in the keys.

Here at school it is my only computer, and I used it almost exclusively last year because I was on the move so much. So yeah I guess you could say I do a lot of typing on here haha. :)

My keyboard on my White 2006 MacBook would get like that, and then the top case would crack and would be replaced. It didn't stay like that for long...
