revised the setup a bit more:

previous:
attachment.php

Added an ergotron LX arm, switched places for the monitor and mbp, and moved the 2TB Time Machine in the accomodata external enclosure from the closet to behind the mbp. Also added an Acase "leather" case for the ipad1,1. About as good as you can get for $15 with the first gen iPad.

Finally picked up a 128GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD! With the promo code, I paid less than $1/GB, a price point I had been waiting on for quite a while. Just waiting on the external super drive enclosure and drive caddy to get here. Cant wait to install it!

Also picked up a pair of RHA c200 headphones after reading a few good reviews on the headphones thread. The over-the-ear design is way more comfortable that the on-ear sony noise-canceling set I used previously and the multi-axis adjustments are perfect. really digging them, especially for $30 shipped from amazon.

I haven't posted my workspace in a long time, a few changes in the last year, here are the most recent pictures. All taken using the GoPRO Hero 3 Silver edition camera. :apple:

These displays are far better then the current ones Apple sells. Too bad they don't make matte displays anymore. I'd probably have to find one of these on eBay or something.

I agree. I picked up one a while back for $35, used it for a year, and sold it for $250 no problem. Considering there are much newer LED backlit 23"+ 1080p displays that can be had for under $250, I'd say that's pretty impressive for a 7-year-old display :D

Yeah i agree, i used to have the glossy 24" cinema display but because i was unable to run two if them on my mac mini, i decided to sell and change to dual 23" displays bought at a goid price on ebay. Very pleased with them even if they are old.

Sharing my current setup, I bought a new display a few days ago and made some changes.

The display is an Asus MX239H, I've been looking around for quite some time now and decided to get this one. I think it looks beautiful and fits nice with the Apple style design. It's a 23'', full HD, IPS, LED backlit display. Colors really look great and sharp on it. Ironically my desktop is black and white :D. It also has dual speakers, which I really wanted in a display. I connected it with a mini display to HDMI cable. The other cable going from the laptop is a usb cable going to a hub under the table where I connected the keyboard, (I use the numpad a lot, so I got the wired instead of the wireless), printer, external HDD and a usb to ethernet cable to. (not using wifi because this way I can reach the full internet speed)

Other stuff around it:

- 2011 MacBook Air 13''
- Apple USB SuperDrive
- Apple mouse & keyboard
- iPad (classic :apple:)

My college dorm setup, simple but clean. It usually stays this way I can't stand clutter.

The usb cable goes to an external hard drive under the desk. Photo taken with an iPhone 4s.

It's just one thing that's kind of always bothered me about Apple. They like to assume they know what we want and then push it on us. They don't offer a matte display anymore. Nor a matte display version of it's iMac or 13" MBP. And Apple has never (nor will ever) support Blu-ray DVDs and instead push the download only model on us. I for one still buy DVD/Blu-ray cause I don't care to clog my HDD with gigs of movies. Plus I love special features which many iTunes movies don't have. ... Sorry for the rant. LOL

Um. Every company does this. They think they know what consumers want. And try to market it. This is called doing business. Starbucks thinks people want to buy coffee. So they make coffee and market it. The same logic applies to the grocery store where you buy food. And most likely the company where you work. Movie theaters, book stores, etc. Apple is just one of the best marketing companies in the world. Case in point, look at their revenue and profit. Lots of PC vendors don't offer matte displays. And it has nothing to do with Apple. Digital download models aren't just Apple only. Nintendo does this with their eShop for their game consoles. Sony, Microsoft with their game consoles too. While physical copies have their advantages, so do digital copies. I don't own any physical media for movies (although I do have quite a collection of PS3 games in physical media form) because I find digital copies are easier to take with me. I don't mind that Apple is starting to remove optical disc drives from their line up and never offered Blu-Ray drives. Why? Because there are an increasing number of people who watch movies and other media online. Like Netflix, Hulu, CBS.com, etc. And because I don't own any DVDs or Blu-Rays apart from some relatively dated software install discs that I don't use anymore. Also, some iTunes movies do contain special features and similar that are quite entertaining. Just because you don't want it doesn't mean someone or some company (Apple) is "pushing it" onto you.

Love the display! Looks great.

Thanks, I really like how it looks and the stand has that nice brushed aluminium around it, looks classy ;)
The sound from the speakers is also very crisp and clear.
Oh and, as ''bigpoppamac31'' above us here ranted about a matte screen, this one actually has it. I got it placed next to my window and it doesn't reflect any sunlight :p

The screen is probably the most important thing to me, and lack of matte screens really irritates me. Even if it was only available online through BTO. I'd love to get a retina MacBook Pro with a matte screen. Just so much softer on the eyes.

I tried using a glossy iMac in the Apple Store, and again when I got a steal on one on Craigslist, and both times the result was the same: I actually got a minor headache. So I was very concerned about picking up a Retina Pro, despite the claims of "70% less glare," but honestly, while 70% is nowhere near perfect, the glare on the rMBP isn't nearly as bad as other full-on glossy products. It is still useless outside without the brightness all the way up of course, but to be honest so was my late 06 MBP before this.

What I _really_ can't stand is glossy on iPads and iPhones. You get it positioned at the perfect angle, but the light from the overhead florescents is reflected perfectly on it. So you tilt it up, but the viewing angle isn't good enough for you to see it. So you tilt it down, and you can't physically see the display. Just a very frustrating problem I never had with my old Archos 604.

Like the pirate with the steering wheel on his crotch, it's driving me nuts.
