The Mac Pro 5,1 had to leave, sad to see it go, feels like the end of an era to me. I'm sure it will come circle around sometime but then as a vintage piece for my collection :)

An 27" 5K iMac is filling the void for the little desktop stuff I do and I absolutely love the design:

QSn6zgl.jpg

It is a Mid 2017 3.8GHz i5, 8GB, 2TB Fusion and the cherry on the cake, a Radeon Pro 580 8GB.

Scavenging the second hand websites for weeks to find a nice deal I was able to pick it up for €1400,- which is decent if you see the rest of the second hand market in the Netherlands. And most don't come with the bigger keyboard and Magic Trackpad.

Popped in 2 x 8GB so now it is snappy enough for its purpose. I'm quite certain that at some point out of hobby/tinkering I will want to open it up and put in a PCI-e SSD and the maximum CPU but I'm good for now haha

For those wondering; the PC in the background is my new Plex server with an i5-8400 (2,8GHz 6-core) which is beefy enough to transcode 4K and uses about 1/5th of the Mac Pro that it took the main job over from.

And last but not least; my Late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina 15" which is also more than capable enough for my needs and I do prefer the old style keyboard over the new butterfly mechanism

I received my SoundSticks III today.

I remember seeing them back in early 2000's at the store and thought they looked really cool. Last year when I decided to get a my first Mac after soo many years of wanting one. I was really happy when I saw that Harman Kardon still made these speakers I just had to get them for my Mac.

So many nice setups. Really was hoping for a new iMac design in 2019 but I guess not. Would have been a nice upgrade for me with 6 and 8 cores on standard iMacs. I was thinking a nice new design would be an iMac that looks like the MacBook’s screen only 27 inches and the foot. That would eliminate the ancient chin the current iMac has and give it a nice sleek border and logo. It would also unify the design between their desktops and their laptops.

Isn’t the chin where the speakers and ports are? Don’t see it ever going away.
The only way they could do that is to make it thicker again and Apple never do that.

The latest addition to the collection; our iPod-white Malteser, Harvey :)

LOL ... first thought: Cookie Monster is on a diet and considering white-fluffy dog may have that soft gewy inside for the initial crunch ;)

Loft the nostalgia setups:
Mac Pro on bottom Left.
PowerMac G5 on the lower Right.
iMac G4 Lamp top right behind the 30" studio display.

Can anyone in this thread recommend a monitor? I have a 2015 MacBook pro and would like to use it docked. I have a budget of around 450 dollars and I'm looking for a 27' inch with Quad HD resolution and very thin bezzles. I'm a sucker for minimalist design, but haven't found any monitor that suits my aesthetic. Anyone with recommendations?

Edit: Personally have been looking at the 'Samsung Space Monitor 27 Inch'.

I know it's a tired thing to say for the last two days, but have you checked the Prime Day deals?

I’d personally go for the Dell, unless you need the high refresh rate in the Samsung for gaming. In my experience, Samsung’s haven’t been as good, both on monitors and TVs in comparison to rivals. Also, the Samsung model from the Amazon sale is one of the lower end models they offer. I’d only get a Samsung model if it was one of the high end models personally. Their low-end stuff isn’t that great, imo.

I personally love my 2 25” Dell 1440p Ultrafine displays, they have great color accuracy and very sharp resolution.

Personally, I'd advise against being so close to the register because in the winter you'll feel incredibly warm and in the summer your feet and legs will always be uncomfortably cold.

That's actually a return vent. The heating/cooling vent is on the floor to the right.

So out with the old and in with the custom built desk. It has built in QI Wireless Charging, an eGPU with a Radeon RX580 and housed inside is a 6 core i7 2018 Mac mini. Also in there is a 4TB USB HD and a 256GB USB C SSD for Bootcamp. The MacBook Pro just docked, but not connected to anything.

Very nice desk - can we get a shot with a little more light to see what's going on under the tabletop?
