Very neat. Did you work like that or was it cleaned up for the picture? Totally appealing but my workspace gets cluttered in 24-48 hours like magic. Maybe if I had less space I’d keep my area neater but probably not.

I'd guess the most of the photos here are staged (all of mine have been staged) ... I wish I could work "clean"... and I always do clean up my workspace at the end of the day... but my workspace is rarely this clean during a workday / project.

My current setup. Finally got myself a standing desk and a new chair.

View attachment 1930486

nice setup.

Some questions:
what chair make/model is that? Is it comfortable for long coding/editing/workflow time?
directly behind the main monitor, is that supposed to be a door? Can't tell as the bottom (under raised desk) doesn't match up with the top half above the desk which looks like a door that opens inward but the radiator is in the way (door/window plit).

1. The chair is a Steelcase Gesture and yes, for me it's perfectly comfortable and adjustable so that I can sit in this chair for long hours without problems. I highly recommend it. However, as the chair is rather pricey and a long term investment you should alway test it first and better: Try different chairs too.

2. Nah, those are European windows my friend.? The window on the left is a rather big one and the one behind the main monitor is a small one.

I see you have two watches. When do you use each of them?

The series 7 AW is used for fitness activities and when I am dressed in active attire and my mechanical watches are used more often.

Is that a Seiko Turtle I see there?

Yep new king turtle with the ceramic bezel insert and sapphire screen. Just took the bracelet off and opted for the OEM rubber strap. It's a beast, just wish it had a better power reserve.

Love the LG widescreen. Curious why the iMac was chosen - if it came after the widescreen? Do you work/play while being portable or best at home?

Oh my, where do I bloody start. The screen is actually a Samsung 49".
Prior to the iMac, I had a Mac Mini M1, and it was connected to a ACER 24" curved monitor. However, the font on screen to me, was never crystal clear.

Considering the Mac Mini M1 was not my primary work/personal computer, I decided to trade it in for an 24" iMac. The idea being that I would get crystal clear text and viewing. Yes, I certainly got that.

However, what I did not anticipate, was if I ever decided to make Mac OS my main computer for use, and my Windows computer merely for gaming. I have setup the iMac via thunderbolt to HDMI, to connect to the Samsung. But, when I do, I keep thinking what is the point. It's not like the Mac Mini didn't do the same thing.

So, here we are, 7 days or so to confirm if I will simply keep or return the iMac...

I say return the iMac ... get an M1 MBP or MBA ... if you're main OS will be macOS and that way you now have a home and portable compute while the gaming rig can also connect to the Samsung with another connection, say DisplayPort :D

You are partially onto something.

iMac was returned a few days ago. In 24 hours or so, I should receive my Mac Mini M1 that was traded, as part of the iMac deal (Apple is returning it).

For now, I will merely continue status quo. Not really a fan of laptops. Even more so the MacBook Pro or MacBook Air. To me, one always has to consider a 'dock' of sorts. And, those seem to carry their own possible issue(s)...

Thought I'd post a little snapshot whilst I'm waiting for some data to transfer. I like to keep things simple, I've gone from MacBook only to MacBook with external display to iMac and iPad Pro to iMac and MacBook Pro and now just back to the MacBook Pro. My primary use case is photo editing for aviation photography which is my hobby (Insta - aviation.too)

Realistically I don't spend much time sat here, I prefer to grab the MacBook and take it to the sofa but this is where my MacBook comes back to every night to get charged and back up - plus where I sit if I really need to focus on my work.

I've got my portable data off to the right and (partitioned) archive / time machine drive off to the left which is connected via a USB cable that is clipped out of sight to the left of the desk. There is also another USB cable with it that connects to a dock and gives me ethernet and A ports if needed. Notebook and iPad is off to the right - iPad is purely a content consumption device for me so occasionally I'll have something else playing on there.

I use the cutting mat as a guide when putting my MacBook down so I get a consistent location, it also stops stuff getting dumped here when I'm away from the desk. Nice to have some depth to the desk so my forearms can be fully supported when sat here!

I like your thought process for your setup. Sounds like you have switched units, as often as I have - LOL

Thanks, I certainly have! I had the 2015 MBP 15 through to summer 2019 but was battling diminishing storage space and I wanted a more portable option. Of course the MacBook offerings back then weren’t great, I had a 2019 13 inch pro and a LG 4K display for 10 days before they went back and that led me to the iMac 27 inch and 12.9 iPad Pro. iMac was great but iPad never suited my portable needs so I jumped on the 2020 MBP revision. I preferred the flexibility of the MacBook Pro so the iMac eventually got phased out. In hindsight, I wish I could’ve stretched the 2015 Pro out a little longer and gone straight to that 2020 MacBook!

Awesome setup & an amazing story! Thank you ?

I myself am not sure if I should get an 4k External Display, or go with the iMac ... Because the 13" Screen is not cutting it. You seem to have tried it all and found what works the best ?
