Thanks! :)

The HiRise is a nice addition but it does have some drawbacks that I found annoying but not dealbreakers:
The Air seems a bit too light for the rubber padding to hold on to: when a cable is attached that has some pulling force on it; the MacBook gets slowly dragged towards that cable.
The hard-plastic padding underneath is not ideal: it makes it too easy for the stand to move around with minimal force applied. They should have made this out of the same padding material that they use on top of the stand.

I see, hopefully the weight shouldn't be an issue as I plan to buy one for a small synthesiser that I have to raise it up a tad, so the synth should be plenty heavy enough, Cheers.

Here is my setup:

The display is just something I had lying around

Mid 2012 MBP I bought last November and upgraded RAM to 16GB. This is my main computer.

Nice setup! But what is it with all the people having fancy modern multiscreen setups but using an old a$$ keyboard? Are they better than the current ones?

haha, I can't speak for everyone using an "old a$$ keyboard," but for me it's very satisfying to have some key travel and feeling the key bottom out. In stark contrast to most modern keyboard that either have slim scissor key switches or mushy silicone dome keys.

Near-Past and Present

I thought it was time I uploaded some pictures of my setup. About a year ago, my setup was a Mid-2012 13" MacBook Pro with a few accessories. Since then, I acquired a Mid-2011 iMac and ended up trading the MacBook Pro for something a bit more travel-friendly - the desk also got a little shelf (thanks Ikea!) and the Soundsticks were put on my work setup, being replaced by some very cheaply priced, but good sounding JBL Pebbles:

- Mid-2012 11" MacBook Air (i7 2.0GHz, 8GB, 256GB)
- Mid-2011 21.5" iMac (i5 2.7GHz, 8GB, 256GB mx100 SSD)
- Anker USB Hub
- Twelve South Backpacks
- WD My Passport Ultra Hard Drives
- JBL Pebbles
- Blue Snowball

Well that makes sense although i would get a modern mechanical keyboard then ;) Personally i love the modern laptop like keyboards with low travel. But i can see why people would combine their love for mechanical with a little nostalgica ;) I was never intending to offend you, just noticed that combination quite a lot recently and sometimes thought it spoiled the setup :)

Enjoy yours!!

where did you get that lamp? whats it called?

I just realized that there are two different lamps...both from Ikea and both LED-based:

In the "old" picture, it's a Jansjö ($10US):

In the "new" picture, it's a Hårte ($20US):
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30266989/

The Hårte is nice because it just has a USB connector at the end that plugs into a small AC adapter that looks like it would work with any smartphone - you can actually unplug the USB connector and use it with a computer or USB hub (or iPhone/iPad AC adapter). I swapped them because the Jansjö was more concentrated in one spot and made for a better nightstand/reading light. I guess both can be ordered online, too.

First post on here in a while, but loved looking through the thread... so here's a few pictures of my setup as it stands. :D

Not been using the iMac at all really since I got the beautiful rMBP, I take it everywhere and even prefer to use it over the iMac when I'm in the house. So I've kinda been toying with the idea of swapping the iMac out for a second hand 24' cinema display the last few days, and perhaps getting it mounted on the wall.

Has anybody had much experience swapping from an iMac to a mbp and separate display? The Cinema displays seem good value atm, going for less than £400 on eBay.
