All of these setup photos make me want an iPad, but the 2 times I've owned one it felt like overkill... didn't give me the control of a laptop and a full OS, and not much better than my iPhone for consuming content... but dangit if every new iPad generation doesn't make me want one again. Anyone else feel the same? Damn you Apple. :)

I am the same. Everyone I know owns an iPad (apart from my husband, he has a Samsung tablet), all use them a lot and are happy with them for playing games, Facebook and media consumption.

I've recently bought myself an iPad Air 2 for university (mainly bought due to great pricing in Australia presently - 64GB $687 AUD, RRP $829 AUD). Previously, I have owned two other iPads and they went unused and I ended up gifting them to family members within a month.

With my most recent purchase (only had it for two weeks), I am trying to fit it into my lifestyle (also own a 13" rMBP and an iPhone 6S Plus). Usually my iPhone 6S Plus is my go-to device.

Anyway, I am hoping to use it when my new semester starts in March for electronic versions of all my textbooks and accessing/annotation lecture notes. It will be easier to carry one iPad instead of three or more textbooks - plus the electronic versions are usually much cheaper, receive small editorial updates and have bonus interactive content.

I am also considering purchasing the app 'DUET', which allows you to connect your iPad to your computer as an additional screen.

Here is my on the road setup in addition to my 13" rMBP but everyone knows what those look like..

It is a 2012 Mac Mini 2.3GHz Core i7, 16GB RAM, 250SSD/1TB Fusion Drive.

You travel with a Mac Mini? Hats off to you - we have enough trouble trying to get people at my company to travel with MacBook Air's, because its "too heavy" now that the retina MacBook has been released

When it is packed up it all fits inside a laptop bag. I'm thinking about adding a airport express to my kit so that I can keep all of the devices in my hotel room on a internal wifi device so I can use my headphones for calls through convergence and do screen shares of my mini from my 13" rMBP.

It sounds like the people at your company are pitching fits to get the latest and perceived greatest.

I would make them carry the 4.5 pound macbook pro non retina for awhile and see if they change their tune and want the airs back.

I remember back in the day thinking that 13" non retina MacBook Unibody was light.

Personally I love my 13" 2015 rMBP. It may only be the base model but it is snappy enough for office work and has a wonderful display and is light enough for me. The MacBook and MacBook Air seem like a waste in my opinion.

I remember putting the 17" pre-unibody MacBook Pro in my book bag and riding my motorcycle 35 miles in to the office. I took that thing everywhere and the weight never bothered me, but some people just like to complain. We primarly issue out Lenovo's to our employees. People complained for years about them being too heavy. So, we went "thin and light" and got the ThinkPad T450s. NOW, they are complaining that the laptops do not have CD/DVD drives. People just love to complain

You could give them one of these bricks if they don't like their MacBook Airs. :D

It's weight doubles as a security feature. Anyone trying to steal it won't get far.

Sorry to go off topic, but have you had any complaints about the T450S trackpad? I have one and I find it feels very waxy and it skips/jumps a lot... very inconsistent and difficult to use precisely.

I can't tell if they're all like this or if mine should be replaced. Thanks!

The waxy feel could be the design of it. Trackpads on PCs vary from machine to machine. Have you tried updating the driver and tweaking the settings of the trackpad?

Thank you for the suggestion. I've tried all kinds of things and it happens in Linux as well. It seems to be physical.

Love all the screen real estate you have going on there!

I'm not sure what to do if it is physical other then open a service ticket with the manufacturer if it is still under warranty.

I need those displays for work.

One screen is for the system drawings.
One screen is for the program.
One is for the interface and graphics editing tools.

The top one I use for come, i.e. Email and work IM.

Since upgrading to Windows 10 I also have the use of virtual spaces like in OSX. I'm surprised how well Windows 10 handles it.

If I swivel in my chair I have my Mac Mini with it's two 1080P 24" monitors.

I like all of my toys. :)

Havent had any complaints about the trackpad, and none of them that I have physically touched have that feel to it. My personal machine also has no problems with it. Check Lenovo's website for warranty coverage to see if yours could be covered for a replacement. If they ship you the part, its a real pain to replace the top cover. I love the machine, but whoever designed the top and bottom covers needs to work elsewhere.

Only thing new is the 2 TB time capsule - my 500 GB 2nd gen finally had the power supply die after 7 years.

Went refurb on this one since this was one of the few times the refurb was actually a significant enough savings over new to matter ($180 vs $300). Very happy.

What desk is that? Like the setup!

I believe this is the same desk I recently purchased. It belongs to the Galant series from IKEA. Comes in a small size and a large size (I have the smaller model).

My local IKEA store (Perth, Western Australia), currently has these for $55 AUD as part of the yearly sale (down from $195 AUD), so they may be cheaper in-store (my local IKEA still lists at full price online). I ended up getting mine for $50 AUD as I had a December coupon which gave me 10% off.

That's why I ended up buying a Macbook. I wanted the OS and power, but the "iPad"-ness. My setup is iPhone 6+ (phablet) and the Macbook.
