Nice, simple and clean.

How do you like that monitor? I'm thinking of getting the 27" version. I was debating between a 5K iMac but considering the price I guess it makes more sense to just go with an external monitor.
[doublepost=1470713203][/doublepost]Also, unrelated, but can anyone recommend me a comfortable, ergonomic, and relatively affordable desk chair?

I had both the Herman Miller Aeron and Embody at one point but ended up returning them because they were so uncomfortable. The Aeron was terrible. It was like sitting in a hammock. There was no support in the seat whatsoever. As someone who is pretty thin, all I could feel while sitting in the chair was my pelvic bone against the mesh. The embody was better but the amount of support in the seat was still pretty thin. What ended up being the deal breaker though was that the firmness of the lumbar support was not adjustable. It felt like something was constantly jabbing me in the middle of my back. I played with all the settings, followed the instructions, contacted customer support, and gave each chair a good chance but they just did not work for me. Now I am very reluctant to spend that kind of money on a chair but it's still kind of a guessing game as there are no quality chair stores in my area.

I've heard the steel case leap chairs are good. Personally have the embody and love it, shame it didn't work for you. For ultimate luxury there is this:

Steel case worklounge I think it's called. Something like $3000 (lol!) but looks so comfortable.

Got some tables made from teak by a local carpenter here in Bandung, Indonesia. I was aiming for a sort of Apple Store table vibe, but in a desk. They are mirror images of each other, with three drawers in front. There's a vast expanse of desk space, and it's so nice to go wireless with the keyboard and trackpad and sit a decent distance away from the 40 inch screen so I can see everything at once.

On the left:
Mac Pro trashcan (4 core, 16 GB)
512 GB internal SSD for apps and system and documents, plus external 1 TB SSD in an OWC enclosure for iTunes, Photos, and other media.
Apple magic trackpad 2 and magic keyboard
iPad mini 3
Samsung UHD 40" TV running in 1080p HiDPI 60 Hz via the Uptab miniDP to HDMI 2.0a adaptor (also does 3840x2160 @60hz, but I prefer the HiDPI mode so the interface elements are larger and more legible, while photos still look awesome).
Brother HL-1205 laser printer (shared between the two computers)

On the right:
Alienware x51 gaming PC
Samsung 24 inch monitor

Ostensibly, I use my Mac for desktop publishing, writing, research, a little bit of Photoshop, and curating our family's vast photo collection. In practice, my wife and kids are always in Bootcamp, gaming in Steam on multiplayer games with the PC (Ark, Grid2, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Terraria, Stardew Valley, etc).

I originally wanted a 27" iMac (5k), but I couldn't figure out how to get it to Indonesia safely, and I didn't want to pay Indo prices for it. So I went with a refurbed Mac Pro, lugged it through all the airports to Indonesia (lots of scrutiny from security: "What is this?" "It's a computer. Really!"), and bought the UHD screen here in Bandung. Now that I have the 40 inch monstrosity, I don't pine for the iMac anymore. And the Mac Pro stays cooler while running games.

Bubinga African rosewood for the desk. Been looking to get this for awhile. Love the exotic wood.

Just sand it it and applied a clear coat, no staining whatsoever needed. The colour just pops and the grain is exquisite.

Yeah the Steelcase Leap is one I'm considering as well. The Office Master OM5 also looks nice but Ergo Direct does not have a return policy so that one is pretty much a no-go.

So thought I might aswell post a change. Some incredible setups on here, mine falls far short of a lot of them ;)

So this was my setup last week:
IMG_0241.jpg

This is my setup this week: Decided I had too much stuff to do similar things and the iMac was going largely unused as was the refurb rMBP (returned it to resellers for money back) so I needed something light and portable that I can just hook up to an external display when needed and can cope with run of the mill tasks (generally browsing, watching youtube videos, researching and typing papers) This should hopefully serve me well! I do need find a better solution for where to put the MacBook when connected to the monitor though!

Long time lurker, thought I would post something.

The MacBook Pro is a loaded 15" provided by work, it travels with me daily along with my iPad Air 2 that I use as a second monitor, and my iPhone 6.

The iMac 5K is the general use computer in the house, I do play WoW on it though and some other Blizzard games.

The PS4 is my primary source of gaming fun these days, hooked up to a 27" Samsung.

This is excellent. I have been thinking of doing this since I am 90% mobile and my imac always goes unused. I am using a macbook air but would really like to upgrade to a macbook like what you have done. My needs are minimal. Unfortunately I can't upgrade for a long while. money is tight unless I can sell some stuff.

If it's your career it's worth the investment!

MBAs from 2013 onwards are on par or better performing than the current MacBooks

I'm glad I did as it really suits my needs. I can just plug the adapter in to charge it and connect to to my external drives and display in one go when I want to work at the desk and just grab it for browsing away from the desk when I like. If I need to take it to work or uni with me I can put it in the sleeve and chuck it in the bag.

The main reason I went for this instead of the MBA was I wanted the retina screen and didn't want to keep the rMBP as I wanted something light I can use in replacement of the iPad for browsing when I want the bigger screen.

It's not quite as fast as my iMac was in some situations but not massively noticeable and it's perfectly snappy enough for what I want.

I am very curious as to what you have yr macbook connected to. It looks like some kind of usb3 splitter box... what is it?

It is! It's a multiport adapter. It has x2 USB 3.0, x2 USB-C, and an SD card reader. I rarely use any peripherals when out and about so I've stuck this behind my monitor with my external drives, HDMI for the monitor and MacBook charging lead connected so when I'm home all I have to do is plug the adapter in to the MacBook and I'm away.

I got it from Amazon UK (assuming it will very likely be on the US site also)

A little update. New desk!

Found this BlueLounge StudioDesk XL second hand from a company who were switching desks. Paid 200USD for it, and considering the 800USD price for a new one, I couldn't resist. So I got it!

Perfect condition!

Here is the desk with everything assembled.

What do you think of the new Apple keyboard and trackpad? Seems to have quite the mixed reviews.

Thanks! The goal is to have it as clean as possible while still maintaining good functionality.

What do you think of the new Apple keyboard and trackpad? Seems to have quite the mixed reviews.

I got the trackpad after I got tired of wrist pain since the Magic Mouse has horrible hand support. It was a little weird at first since the iMac screen is so much larger than the Macbooks. But after awhile its really really nice to use the trackpad. The larger trackpad size makes things like 'three finger drag' lovely to use while working, editing photos, etc.

I really like the new keyboard. It feels "fresh". Hard to describe it, but it doesn't feel as chunky as the old one, which makes typing a bit faster as well as more controlled. The larger buttons sure does wonders.

The cost to upgrade was a tough pill to swallow but definitely worth it in the long run. The only thing I'd love more than this keyboard is a mechanical keyboard with blue switches. Nothing beats that. Except my girlfriend who would be beating my head with it if I got one.

Also, being able to charge it with lightning is pretty sweet. I always have a cable connected to the computer to charge my phone while working, so being able to use that same cable to charge up both the keyboard as well as the trackpad is a major improvement over switching batteries.

Would definitely recommend both of them.
