a little update:

bought the 24'' iMac 2 weeks ago, and the WhiteBook 3 days agos

None of that is in your signature! And where's the macbook pro? That's a VERY nice setup, modern looking:cool:. I know this has been asked a MILLION times before, but what is that blue/purple glowing thing next to your keyboard?

That's a Griffin Powermate.

Really? What are the two way you can hook it up, video mirroring and whats that other one? What's the difference?

You can have it set to an expanding mode which basically adds the 20" of screen real estate. Pretty much an extension of the main screen, many people get secondary screens for more workspace.

Very useful.

...and if Apple made a 32" Cinema display...
...and if the iMac could support it...

;)

I too would love to have a 30" display but I can't justify the cost of a Mac Pro just to drive a big screen. I don't need that much power, I just need screen real estate (I have a 20" iMac plus a 20" external display now). I'm the perfect candidate for the xMac that Apple will never build.

I see from your signature that you've got a MBP; why don't you just attach a 30" monitor to that? Unless you want 2x 30" displays of course.

I've always thought of a MBP + 30" ACD as a great combination. After all you've said you don't need the power of a Mac Pro not that the MBP isn't powerful enough anyway for most people!

The MBP is a work-issued computer though, so I don't really do my personal projects on it. I've thought about ditching the iMac and getting a MBP and a 30", but a MBP is still pretty close the the price of a used or refurb'd Mac Pro. Plus I prefer to have a machine with a large desktop hard drive as my "home base" that's always running.

I think I'm just going hold out until I can pick up a first- or second-gen Mac Pro for cheap. Then I'll have the option of going for dual 30", which is my ultimate goal. Of course we want to buy a house first, so this plan probably will be nixed by the wife for at least another year or so :D

That's the thing with women, the majority of them just can't understand how cool and important some technology is. When I got 3 monitors for my PC every girl I spoke to was like, "Why?". Whereas every guy was like, "Cool man!". I say forget the house and get the two 30" ACD's! I'd happily live in a shed with that setup ... :D

Seriously though, the Mac Pro for the multiple ACD's is a good idea and one that I'm entertaining myself at the moment. The GeForce 8800 GT would probably help sway me as well ...

P.S. From your site; you're right it WAS the most intelligent thing a politician has EVER said about religion. Pity the kind of people who needed to have heard it never will ...
