yeah, i think it is. it may look good on the picture but if you want a good and stable desk, stay away from it.

Now, as that's not your desk, I'd say you are completely unqualified to say whether its stable or not.

Frankly, for the price, Ikea makes some of the sturdiest desks I've ever seen. I know several people who use them and my next desk is definitely going to be one one like then one you're referring to.

Maybe he had one. ;)

But, it is true that Ikea is a one-show pony, in other words, much of their furniture is not suitable for people who intend to move around a lot. Their bookcases, entertainment units, etc aren't real great after a move or two. HOWEVER, the desk that is being referred to is a table top and legs. You buy them separate. Pick your top, color, legs, etc.

I've gone through my share of desks and frankly wound up with two table tops and 8 legs as my desk in my old place. Since moving I am down to one, but I will say quite frankly it is as stable as you can get at this point. Plus, moving is easy because you just unscrew the legs and you're set.

The top is made of manufactured wood-like material. It is hollow core, or paper, but paper may as well be hollow core. the metal brackets that the legs screw into are quite sturdy and the legs are also sturdy. The longer the desk the less stable it will be. This is the case in ANY table top. Think about it.

I did raise question myself to putting my 30" ACD and my Mac Pro on the top, but it came down to space and not fear of breakage.

Yeah, I have the same desk you're talking about. Mine's black with grey legs. My mom has the same one. When my parents moved into a new place, we could tell that both desks warped at the center pretty badly, so much so that having them as an "L" showed the warp pretty clearly.

If anyone is getting a computer desk at Ikea, by recommendation is to make sure that it comes with a pannel that you can attach to the back, underneath the desk. That will make sure that is stays sturdy.

Something like this would be ideal for a computer: JONAS - desk with pull-out panel. I'm thinking about picking up one of these when it's my turn to move. =)

I had this desk (well, basically - mine had the straight piece on the right, not the curved) from Ikea, and it was a sturdy as any desk I've ever seen.

I had a Mac Pro and 2 23" ACDs on it from the day I set it up, and it never sagged or bowed in at all. It was a great desk - the only reason I'm not using it anymore is because I wanted a dark wood, straight desk instead of a Birch angled one.

Wow... You are so offended just because you about to get one? HAHAHAHA!!! I had a jerker and I didn't even think that desk is firm. People just overrating stuff just because it's popular.

anmoldagreat like upsguy27 mentioned the left is vista, the right connected to MacBook.

I use one keyboard and mouse for both, pretty convenient if you need to have both pc and mac... (Synergy is the program if interested)

My Macbook wired to my 20' Samsung, works great!.

Waiting on news on my 24' 3.06GHZ iMac order

I'm assuming that 20" is running on 1680 x 1050? Do you have a GMA950 MacBook? How does it perform running at such a high resolution? Exposé? Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator? Questions questions questions!

I only ask because I've ordered a 22" Dell and I'm afraid that the MacBook will struggle with it. I'll only run one screen. The MacBook will remain closed methinks.

It'll be fine. Thats not really high resolution... even integrated graphics can handle 20/22" lcd resolutions.

Try to push a 30", good luck. GMA doesn't support dual link. Anything else is fine.

Maybe you put it together wrong?

What I'm saying is based on my experience. It has nothing to do with... "popularity"? That doesn't even make sense. Its a desk not a prom queen.

And no, I'm not about to get it. Whenever I end up in my own place, thats the first desk I am going to check out because of my positive impressions so far.

Hi cleanup yes you right it's GMA950 card and yes it's running 1680x1050 with no issues. I only use Photoshop for editing and I have not seen any issues.
I wouldn't worry about performance if I were you. Timing maybe...

To make MacBook work with close lid I had to install special program that won't let it go to sleep I also had a keep one usb devise connected at all time for that to work (mouse in my case) I can't recall the name of that program of top of my head right now but you can do a quick search and find it out...

I never understood the whole putting lights on your computer thing. I guess it makes it look more expensive, but it seems kind of lame to me. : )

And I never understood why people keep posting PC setups in Mac Setup thread... And why people quote images.

I never understood the word "pwnage".

pwn is a misspelling of "own" which means "got his arse kicked" or "kick his arse" so therefore "pwnage".

i too dont like flashy neon lights in a PC. when get around to building my PC it will have no lights thats for sure.

The program is called InsomniaX. http://semaja2.net/insomniaxinfo/

you dont actually need an app do do this. just sleep the MacBook by shutting the lid and connect the external display, power and a USB keyboard & or mouse and then press the keyboard or mouse and it will wake up and show the desktop on the external display. you can also use a bluetooth keyboard or mouse by selecting "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this keyboard" in Bluetooth's advanced preferences.

Huh, I never knew that. I've only had my MacBook for three days. So you just close the lid, and plug in the external display and it will show up on the external display? I would be using a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, so I can do that?

^ yup! just make sure you plug in the power… thats the key!

when you open the lid and want the MacBook screen back on for extended desktop mode press the "Detect Displays" button in Display preferences.

the only draw back from this is when you work with an external display with the MacBook lid open and the screen off to keep it cool, once you sleep it and then wake it, the screen will turn back on. you have to then close the lid, sleep it, wake, wait till after the blue screen then open it… (confusing!). i need something like the Detect Displays button but the exact opposite.

i like to work with my MacBook Pro screen off but the lid open because animations get laggy when both screens are on.

Yep. Turn on "wake from sleep" in BT prefs if you like too. ;)

Okay, thanks! I'll have to remember that when my 26" display comes!
