Come on.. this thread needs more PPC Macs! :apple: The day Apple actually releases a 12" notebook is the day I replace my Powerbook. Otherwise, I am staying in the PPC dark ages. 13.3" and 15" just don't interest me, and desktops aren't practical for college.

 I don't get it. Why are so many people up in arms about there being no 12" laptop? The Macbook is only slightly wider, but not as deep. I could never go back to a 4:3 screen either.

You should invest in some speaker stands for your rears, or even just nail some 2x4's to the edges of your desk to hold them behind you.

Yep. Have your Left Surround and Right Surround speakers right there won't give you the right effect. You can check out different specs released for angles. But, in general, you want then to form a 90 degree angle centered on the back of your head.

Please tell me you're not buying a used iMac G4?

I bought one a few months ago. If you're in the kitchen cooking, an iMac G4 can play music, look up recipes, and show movies. And then I can twist the display to face the dining room so I can continue to watch the movie while I eat.

There isn't a machine made anymore that is small enough and looks good enough to be in the kitchen.

Planning on getting the mac mini in the next month or so to get rid of some wires as well as a macbook pro to replace the macbook - then if im feeling stupid an apple 23" cinema display to go in the centre and ill shift the macbook pro to the right and place it on my laptop stand..which i should probably be using tbh (*gets it out from his closet*)

*its not a very long macbook btw, its just a small wireless apple keyboard infront of it

thats about it really :)

Nice setup. Not clean but nice. Keyword: cable management! How do the soundsticks work out for you?
Also what desk is this? Thanx

Of course it could. But which one costs less?

EDIT: Beaten to it by Decrepit. :p Although I have yet to see an iMac G4 go for $150...that would be awesome.

I got lucky and got it on eBay. No wireless, but I put a USB Bluetooth and a USB 802.11g NIC on it.

So it can stay out there, and I use an Apple Wireless Keyboard which stays in a drawer to stay clean. But if I'm sitting in front of the oven for a few hours, chopping onions, etc., I can have some music. :)

heh, thanks. Ive just set it up for anticipation of getting the new mac mini and macbook pro when they come out - so im going to leave the cables for a while until at least the mini gets here as that will hide a lot of cables! (usb/firewire/audio and external monitor connections), hopefully leaving the laptop free and actually portable..trouble with the glass desks is that they dont let you hide anything! so for the stuff behind the desk ive attached wires together just because they were driving me nuts :).

To answer your question about the desk its this one:

http://www.johnlewis.com/230403975/Product.aspx

A bit expensive, but its so damn nicely made, quite sexy and very wide and long!

These are some old setups, you can see how much stuff you can put on it:

You can see how messy it can get if you load it with too much though!

The soundsticks are perfect for my music taste (electric, rock, jazz, erm ...melow ^_^ etc), as im sure many people will have said online, they are amazing speakers, especially for the price...a really pure sound is how i would describe it, although im not an audiophile by any means. One problem i had with them is that they don't have a mic out but i got around that by placing a y-splitter on the mac output. I also bought (today) a griffin powermate for audio control (mainly mute) among other things, as the desk is so wide and i dont particularly like the touch volume controls (even though they work very well, i just prefer something more physical) - so that i can mute the speakers a lot easier when switching to headphones. Its also apparently pretty useful for things like the finder, mail notifications ah who am i kidding, im just a gadget ho' and it was so enticing :)
