Hello

Been following this forum for a while now, but just got registered so i thought this is a nice place to start.

So here it is, my home desk

quick question..isn't there an App called "[something]clock" on the iTunes store where you can make your Touch or iPhone look like your screensaver?

I was in Expose this morning and thought it might be a cool shot.

You've probably see my set-up in this thread before, so I won't bore you with the details beyond: 6 monitors on a single Mac Pro, and I write software.

do you like what you do? (writing software). i'm kindddd of considering something computer-based when i go to college. but not really sure...

It's called "Flip Clock" and it costs $.99 in the App Store.

TBH the 24" iMac is nothing to sneeze at and you're right, I don't see the wires and my chair is always pushed in. So ... short of someone wanting to actually come over and take care of my wires for me, there they shall stay. When I move I think I'll hire a man toy for a month to do all the little things I haven't any desire to do ... and some things I do have a desire to do. :D

30" is nice and I started to get wiggly about the rumored updates as well. Once that new ACD hit I was nearly giddy knowing it wasn't something I'd ever want to purchase.

Yeah ,I'm so disappointed in the new monitors. I got the iMac because I like the all-in-one factor and I'm so glad I have a white (matte) one. I dread the day when I will upgrade to one with a glossy screen...I know next year when snow leopard comes out they'll have some super fast iMac out that I'll want but I won't want to get it due to the fact the screen will be glossy, and I don't need a Mac Pro at all. My next computer will probably be a new iMac and although I prefer matte screens, I'll have to live with glossy. My MacBook Air's screen is beautiful even though it's glossy. Despite it being much brighter than my iMac screen, I still prefer working on the iMac screen.

"Refurbishing" my desk

This weekend I got so annoyed with the look of my desk and my setup. Even extensive rearranging wouldn't help. So I decided that it's time for a new look for my desk. I went to the local hardware store and bought some laminated film for furniture. Now I love the new look of my desk! :) The film did cost me about 23 Euros and it took 2 hours.

Yes, it's about all I've ever wanted to do. It's not for everyone though. A degree in computer science is (or used to be, I've been out of school for a while) a lot of work, especially in math. In general I'd suggest double majoring if you can. I always wish I had double majored in CS and Latin.

The day to day aspects of writing software is very different from a CS degree. I enjoy both though. There's a lot more to CS than "computers"; CS isn't really about programming at all. But to be an excellent programmer, you'll need to understand the science of computing, somehow.

Bottom line: I'd recommend waiting to declare a major as long as possible. Take classes in various subjects you think you're interested in. Don't get in too much of a hurry if you're not sure. The first few CS classes are usually weed out classes, same as with many majors (Physics comes to mind). Slog through it. Don't drink too much.

Hope this helps.

up until this year i have been very good at math in school. i also like screwing around with computers a bit, granted i won't do too much because if i ever lost my school files i'm f***ed. i've taken two computer courses at school, one was a joke where we did nothing and the other was a Web Design course, it was fun and all but that's obviously not programming.

i know for a fact that for college i'm considering something lawyer/gov't based, computer based (something that i can make money off of though), or something business based. i know the three aren't too related, but i have interests in all three.

thanks for the input :D

(by the way your link to your offics pics in your sig. doesn't work)

I see that missing key right there.

Yeah... i was cleaning under the key and managed to snap off the metal bits that held the key in place. The metal was quite flimsy but i guess i shouldn't really have taken off the key in the first place!

Yeah, but an even better movie with Kevin Spacey as a supporting actor is "Se7en". Perhaps the most thrilling movie I've seen this year, except maybe for "The Sixth Sense".
