Today I set-up my 2nd 30" monitor. I now have 9920 x 1600 on my Mac Pro; I have a dual-link DVI KVM to switch the middle 30" with the MacBook Pro. I originally ordered the 2nd 30" for the MacBook Pro, no KVM planned, but I thought I'd give it a shot and see how I liked having a 9920 x 1600 desktop, as well as not needing a 2nd keyboard/mouse.

Pictures are click-able.

I am not quite sure if I will keep it like this or split the systems back up and bring back a 24" or 19" for the 6 monitor system. 108" of monitor width is really wide, but I do enjoy having more than 1 non-portrait screen. It will take a few weeks to sort out.

Most (All?) of your questions are answered in the FAQ in my signature. I write software.

Great span, I love it. I would let it rest awhile and see how you like it.
I would think the only way i would split them up was if I needed to have one separate system to run Windows on for one or two apps and then I would also tend to have that extra keyboard/mouse for that system only. It may make life easier for that type of use.

Anyway very nice setup it's just gorgeous no matter how you have it set up.

Yeah, I finally got off my butt and hooked up the KVM today. It's pretty good.

It's definitely nice to be a bit de-cluttered--I am glad I sold the 24" iMac and decommissioned some of the other gear for now.

All of the monitors are on the Mac Pro, the Windows you saw were just VMs. The middle monitor is on a KVM between the Mac Pro & MBP. Gang of ESX servers in the closet.

I had some time between meetings today to clean up some; here's a newer picture:

Looks much less cluttered, I like it.

Personally, I would buy another 30" Monitor and do this l---l

Yeah, I can see the utility in that--however, for now it is what it is. :) I really like portrait mode screens but some tools prefer landscape. Code editing and terminals / debuggers still win for portrait mode.

I originally did 2x20 portraits over 1x30s for the $1000 price tag savings, and hey, I just like portrait mode.

Sadly, I doubt the re-sell value for the 20" monitors is much. I am having trouble getting rid of the old 24" display on Craigslist.

cool setup... are those Grono lights the small or big size? they look huge next to your speakers! Are you happy with them?

I ask because I'm thinking of buying them!

Haha. They are pretty big.
I bought them in store, and I didn't realize, but smaller ones were also inside the big ones (I was wondering why they were so heavy), so I'm using one as a vase, haha.

I like the ones I have up there. Elegant looking to me.

Oh, and for your thread that you linked.
I would personally get both. The lamps for on top of the desk, and the strip for underdesk lighting. I have underdesk lighting with these LED pods from IKEA, and it looks pretty cool.

Nothing fancy really, from the left:

2.0 ghz Alu Macbook and a 250gb LaCie brick external drive. next comes a cheap-ass 19" monitor, connected to the macbook and macally keyboard (like it better than the apple once actually, from a ergonomical point of view). Then comes my MacMini 1.6 Ghz that currently serves only as wireless "router" when i want to sit somewhere else and use the webz (thats what i tell my gf anyway, the truth is i don't want to part with it even tho i hardly ever use it). On top of that lays an ipod mini, in my humble and poor opinion the best looking ipod ever, and yes, that's a Microsoft mouse, but i've gotten use to the model and its dirt cheap wich means i can have an extra in school and at work instead of carrying one around.

Also, I have the same chair as you, im sitting on it right now! Ikea?

Yep, Ikea. only place to get dirt-cheap furniture, next to bying old stuff.

Myself, i got the hard drive from some swedish internet dealeship some 3 years agot, and i thought they didnt sell them anymore, but i just found out that lacie got a 1TB edition now: http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?pid=11149

This is soooo impressive. How did you have time to read all those manuals?
