Why did you replace them? Larger size? I hope you made some money off of it. The Dells are decidedly poorer displays, I'm pretty sure. I would've kept the ACDs!

The Apple Cinema Displays are way overpriced in my opinion. Dell are the way forward for monitors.

That's just my opinion though.

Depends on what you need them for. I´d never use a TN-Dell for graphics design, but if you don´t need perfect colors the Dells are a good alternative, especially the 2408 and 3008.

They are, but Dell monitors are overpriced as well, unless you pitch for the UltraSharp IPS panels (of which they're really the only realistic and affordable choice). Their TN panels are way too expensive. Competing companies like Acer, Samsung, LG, BenQ, etc. have far better prices for often superior displays.

Uh... Dell 3008WFP good alternative? It's superior to any ACDs out there.
ACDs use old IPS panel. The only reason people still buy them because of the "Apple LOGO" and nice looking :) After all, that's what apple fans pay for anyway.

Dell always or majority of the time have sales on their monitors.

Compared the ACD 24 at apple store to my 21.5" HD dell monitor. The dell monitor is either better or as good and $500 cheaper

old IPS panel
Look at ACDs, look at EIZOs and look at NECs. Do you really want to tell me that the Dell´s PVA is superior to these references in graphics design?

I only like the new Led cinema display, but it should cost so much. if apple would lower the price to $499 i think they wouldnt be able to keep them in stock.

Depends on what model you are referring to. Did I say Dell PVA monitors are superior to all of them? At least Dell update their panels not like Apple. Apple 20" still uses the old Dell 2005wfp IPS panel, 23" ADC still uses the old HP 23" IPS and 30" ADC still uses the old Dell 3007 and HP 3065. Get it?

I do, but I don´t think these panels are bad, just because they aren´t brand new. Of course they are definately not cheap, but their quality is worth it (at least in my opinion). There sure are monitors that are equal to them when it comes to the panel (Dell, Eizo, NEC etc.), but in terms of design and quality they are still the best I think (just think of the full aluminium housing).

I didn't say they were bad. All I'm implying is that paying $500 for an ADC 20" is outrageous. Other monitors quality are fine. Why would you pay $200 more for quality when all it does is it sits on the desk? Yes, the design is definitely attractive but once you have it on your desk, you don't even pay attention to the design after a week. If you feel like those things worth $200 more then be my guest while other can use that extra $200 to invest in another monitor.

Thought I'd show you my setup. I was thinking about cleaning it up first, but, why post a lie? This is how my area usually looks. I hate the look of wires being all over the place, but really it's hard to clean it up without it getting back the same way.

Why did you decide to replace your ACDs and how do the Dells compare to them?

Wow, there were so many replies about the monitors I can't even quote them all, so I'll just post a reply here.

I upgraded from the 20" ACDs for a couple of reasons, for a better a resolution, for more screen space and because the design of these Dell monitors are awesome and goes pretty much with the rest of my equipment.

Anyone who says that the 20" ACD are better than these 23" Dell displays I invite you to come over and check them out side by side, and I have no doubt that if you were looking at image quality / colors / brightness you'd pick the Dells, these displays are superb displays I really like they, and I could have bought 4 of them for the price of 2 of the 20" ACDs.

These Dell monitors rock in my opinion, the colors are very good, they are so freakin bright that I had to turn them down to 50% brightness, and the exterior design looks great with my setup as well.

Don't get me wrong I love Apple stuff too, and it was a VERY hard decision to replace those monitors with these ones, but Apple's monitors are just too expensive for what you get, and the new 24" ACD is geared more towards laptops, plus it's glossy.

-Andrew

P.S. If anyone is interested the 20" ACD are for sale, they are both in immaculate condition, original boxes and manuals etc. :p

I was going to say... I hope he knows that he can buy extra controllers on their own. You don't need a second system to have two! ;)

The one on the back is mine, the one in front is my brothers.

I believe in paying for games (especially since I mostly play online games), so mine is original, no modifications whatsoever. My brothers on the other hand, is flashed. The only reason I have it in my room is because he's away for the day/night, and although I believe in paying for my games, I'm not opposed to playing an illegal copy of Prototype, haha.
