As with the mason jars, I've yet to find some desktop speaker stands(8") here in Hong Kong. I'm ordering some online when I get back to the US in August. In the meantime I may just can some peaches with them, multi-purpose! :)

You live in Hong Kong? I'm jealous. I miss Asian metropolitan life dearly. :(

I'm native Hong Konger, been in the US for the last 12 years, currently in Hong Kong working in the family business. Hong Kong is great, but I do miss the relaxed lifestyle in the US. It is too crowded here and too hot in the summer. But it is fun and never boring! Plus it is great to not have to pay for gas.

Picked up a Logitech VX Revolution and an Apple Keyboard today to finally complete my desk setup. Still deciding on the mouse though, I'm not too sure if it is what I really want.

If you don't need it, sell it to me (for cheap)!

Hehe. :p

Haha, well I got it Open Box from Best Buy for half off the retail price. If I end up not liking it within 30 days, I'm just gonna return it. It didn't come with a battery cover, which was odd, and the battery was dead. But for half off, that didn't bother me so much.

This is my first ever wireless mouse, so I have to get used to the "lag" and also the way that OS X deals with mouse acceleration, since you can't turn it off.

Try a different wireless mouse then. I use a Logitech G7. I also have a VX Revolution, but only for on-the-go for my MacBook. It's a bit annoying having to deal with lag on a desktop.

And as for mouse acceleration, give USB Overdrive a try. I think there are some other free utilities out there for Mac OS X that let you customise USB mouse options.

I've been using the VX for a while now too and I'm not too impressed with it. I figured I'd go for the best wireless mouse I could find because I can't stand using my $30 wireless logitech combo but you can still tell it's wireless.

My cousin is crazy into gaming and he uses the same $30 set and doesn't understand what I'm talking about. Then again he has the sensitivity jacked through the roof. I use the VX for most things, but still can't stand it for COD.

Is there any wireless mouse that can really compare to a wired? My $10 wired logitech is worlds better than the VX.

I had a G5 before the VX, I love the VX as far as fit/comfort go. The lag I can compensate with, since there isn't much at all for me to be bothered.

I currently use SteerMouse for the buttons and the sensitivity and track speed, and I have kinda found the combination of settings that I am happy with. Since I got it for 40 bucks (normally $90 retail in Canada), I'm lovin' it so far.

Depends on how much you wanna spend, but I hear the Razer Mamba is probably the best mouse out there right now. Wired AND Wireless. $130 though. I was considering getting one since I prefer Razer over Logitech for mice, but $40 for the VX is a sweet deal.

My current Mac Pro setup:

I have a collection of old Macs going back to the Mac 128k, but here's the last dekstop shot I could find, there's a B&W G3 hiding under the desk next to the PC's, and its hooked up to the B&W Apple LCD monitor:

I also had a G7 (still have it on my desk actually, just not hooked up). Swapping batteries with it was easy, so it was never "out of charge"...just felt it was time to try something new. I tried the new MS Sidewinder, which while "nice" I just couldn't get comfortable using - I have big hands.

If you look in my photo above, I'm using the Razor Mamba (it's sitting on its charger below the DELL logo on the monitor on the right)... SteerMouse gets just about all the buttons active. I reconfigured the two macro buttons (by default they toggle DPI) to be keyboard combos in the windows driver and then they worked just fine in OSX. (one is bound to DejaMenu, the other Dashboard) The sensitivity and no-lag of this mouse is amazing -- though it doesn't have the battery life of the Logitechs. If you don't leave your Mac on 24/7 recharging may be an issue...it lasts about 14hrs on a single charge. Takes 5hrs to fully recharge... though you can pull the USB out of the charging base and plug it into the mouse - it then acts like a corded mouse while it charges...then when its full you can pull it out and put it back in the base, though this doesn't quite work 100% smoothly in OSX, I sometimes have to fiddle with it a bit to get it back into wireless from wired mode.

Hmm, that's all good to know. Seems like the Mamba is meant to be a desktop mouse...not a "desktop setup for laptop" mouse since it won't be able to charge say overnight while the computer is sleeping...Thanks man, that would have been a waste of $130 if I did order one. They should have just made it pure wireless, and make it like the MX Revolution, where it has a separate dock for charging but also a separate USB receiver so that the dock doesn't have to be plugged into the computer for it to work.

Yeah. I don't know if MacBooks have the option, but on my Lenovo laptop, I have a BIOS option to have "USB Power always on", which means the USB ports have power even when the machine is off while it is plugged in, so the mouse could work with that setup.

edit - Hey, just found this: if you plug the device into a Mac USB port while logged in and while the Mac is awake, OS X sets a bit that tells the Mac something is plugged in and keep power. If the Mac then goes to sleep, the port will remain powered, and the USB device will charge.

So looks like if you sleep your laptop, you'll be find with it charging...though it's base is definitely not "portable".

Wait...I think they already do that...since if the MacBook is asleep and I press something on the keyboard, it wakes up. And if I unplug a USB from the MacBook, it also wakes...so maybe they are still able to deliver power even when it is asleep. My iPhone charges while the computer is asleep also.

Yeah, from reading that other post, as long as you sleep and don't shutdown, you will charge...

Hmm, now I have a bit of deciding to do. The mouse is going to be used strictly at the desk, so the dock not being portable doesn't matter for me. I'm just not sure if the Mamba is worth almost 4 times the amount I paid for my VX Revolution...decisions decisions.

The toughest thing for me was deciding if I was okay losing so many programmable buttons...the Mamba has fewer... 7 buttons on it that you can program. The biggest loss is there is no left/right scrollwheel click. But the movement is so smooth, so precise, this 1000Hz polling is crazy...and the fit is fantastic, it has to be one of the most comfortable mice I've ever used.

The VX is actually small for my big hands too. I've somewhat gotten used to it, but it's still not very comfortable. I looked at the MX, but the reviews weren't as good. Possibly the new MX 1100? I'm just afraid it's going to be mostly the same as the VX in a larger package.

I was willing to spend some $ if it meant a good experience, but $130 bucks is pusing it. :p Not even sure if I'm to keen on the looks of the Mamba.

Don't get the Mamba unless you:

a) Play twitch shooters.
b) Do graphics design without a tablet.
c) Have money pouring out the ***hole.

If you want a high-quality, zero-lag wireless mouse, the G7 or the Sidewinder is a good bet and a fair bit cheaper. The G7 only has three programmable buttons, mind you (and that's including the sideways scroll, so just one in reality).

Personally I love my G7, but I hate having to swap batteries every day or two, so I think I might nab a Mamba soon.
