If only it was that easy, all the money I am earning will be going towards university and my laptop (PC) for that and due to the course I am doing, Computer games design and programming, ive been told by several people a mac isnt really the way to go

Edit: I also feel envious, which is why i would love a mac right now, but for reasons above, wont really work.

You could always go for a MBP and Bootcamp into Windows. I don't know if that would make things better.

I was looking into the Game Programming degree at Full Sail and it's the only degree (or one of the very, very few) at that school that requires a PC. All others require a MBP.

That was a thought of mine, but im sure i would need one with a proper graphics card and thats a minimum of around £1350 with student discount as i would need to run 3dsmax, photoshop and the possibility of some other programs too. I would love to get the 13" MBP though

Take it from me-- 1280x800 resolution is not very fun for photoshopping. YES, it can be done, I have done it for years-- but it is not optimal. I would say, if you have the money get the middle of the road 15" MBP with the dual graphics and Bootcamp into Windows. Use Windows for class, and enjoy OS X at your leisure.

I personally have been using my 13" MB as a desktop for 2 months... Plugged into a 1600x900 monitor and loving it. I would love 1900x1200. Plan on getting a Mac Pro in the fall and maybe running dual monitors at 1900x1200. Haha... But really, think about actual desktop size when you decide on the laptop... especially for what you plan on doing. Graphic design, animation, programming all require a lot of screen real estate, or at the very least benefit vastly from it.

Cheers for the advice. I have a computer screen at 1400x900 and also an HD TV that I would be connecting to the laptop to do anything that i needed to focus on anyway, so its mainly just internal specs that worry me and the cost of getting the middle 15" which would be £1304.10 standard with edu discount.

Consider the Student Developer Discount... It is available here in America, not sure about other countries, but for a $100 membership fee, you get access to some ADC stuff and a 1-time hardware discount. I know last I checked if I sign up for that I can get the 17" for $2,200 or a base Mac Pro for $2,000 (if I remember correctly)-- including the cost of membership that is $2,300 and $2,100 respectively. Much better than the normal student discount. That discount is a one time deal though, so make it count.

Edit: Here is a link to more info on the Student Developer Hardware Purchase Program... Europe doesn't seem to have an online store, but you can see the price discounts offered to US... $500 off both Mac Pro and 17" MBP.

Another helpful post, but unfortunately, im not sure if i would be covered by the terms of the agreement. And also the money for the ADC for me at the moment would be an expense i couldnt really afford due to the possibility of needing the money for food etc. All im really needing to know I guess was if i could run 3dsmax through OSX or bootcamp on the 2.26 13" and whether it would run properly. Sorry for going off topic too!

Well, 13" and base 15" MBP use nVidia integrated graphics that share RAM with the system, no dedicated VRAM. So, you would probably want to get a RAM upgrade I would guess. I don't do 3D animation/rendering so I honestly don't know the entire answer to your concern. I would say find benchmarks on the system and see what they indicate. Benchmarks usually include rendering tests I believe.

Sorry for going off topic viewers. I will post an updated pic of my setup when I get home to make up for it! :D

Finally got a mStand. I've wanted one for a awhile but didn't see the point in paying $50 for one.

Got this one off of Craigslist for $25......:D

Picture taken at night with iPhone 3GS, so not so good

Just finished building some legs for my monitor, so it can stand on the floor and not take up space on my small desk.

You can see my mini and media drives hidden under the desk, the chair then fits tidily under the desk when not in use.

TV to top right is also 2nd monitor to watch movies in bed, Bose SoundDock for speakers on floor bottom left as no space elsewhere :D

I just got my new MacBook Pro! After waiting months for WWDC I was able to finally order it! I read these forums all the time but this is my first post. Compared to a lot of the other amazing apple setups mine is meek in comparison but I thought I would show my setup off anyways. These pics are just quick snaps so sorry about them not being as sharp as they could be. I ordered the 2.8ghz MacBook Pro and upgraded the 500gh hdd to the 7200rpm. Thanks!:)

What mount is that for the monitor?
