I'd love to take a cube sometime and upgrade it to the absolute maximum. Does anyone know what that maximum is?

I think I've seen dual 1.8Ghz upgrades, and single 2.0Ghz ones. You can fit 1.5GB of RAM in them, and pretty much any short, low-profile video card that'll fit in an AGP 2x slot. They have the hard drive size limitation, but with software hacks you can get around that and put in any big IDE drive.

So you're saying:
Dual 1.8 GHz G4
1.5 GB RAM (what type?)
120 GB HDD (also hackzorzable?)
AGP 2x GPU

hmmmm.... not that super, you can for very cheap get an Intel MacMini much better than this....

Yeah, unfortunately the Cube is also limited by its 100Mhz bus, which really puts a damper on things. It uses PC100/PC133 RAM. You can use over 120GB drives with the right software, but without it, yeah, 120GB is the max.

It's the reason I sold my dual 1.5Ghz upgrade for my Cube and got a Mac Mini in the end. Well, also because I got three faulty units in a row.

That's where my peripherals went to! Typical, old-fashioned grandparents interior and a 20'' ACD, Mac mini and wireless keyboard and mouse, great!

EDIT: by the way, may granddad took the picture and they scaled it down and sent it to my e-mail address.

I showed my sister's MacBook to my grandparents once. Vacation fotos and the like. Their reaction:
[Grandpa]
"Och, da bewegt sich ja son kleines Pfeilding, was ist das denn?"

Translation:
Hey, there's an arrow-thingy moving around, now what is that?

Ironie?

Anyway, In my opinion, teaching older people how to use computers is something you will sometimes have to work very hard for, but in the end it's worth it. I can recommend it to anyone who has grandparents a little less frightened towards computers?

They really are one of the most underrated Apple computers ever. Been using mine almost 2 years (October 22nd will be official) and it still pulls along strongly. I was thinking of upgrading to MacBook, but i'lll stick with eMac for another year. The only think I wish i could change would be keeping the speaker grilles on. One of my friends was over at the house and starting poking at them. I was kinda upset after he left!

I love the eMac too! My old roommate had hers for a few years until I moved in with all my Powerbooks and iBooks, etc. Then she upgraded to an iMac G5. I was tempted to buy off her eMac for my mom though. Damn, I should have. She probably would have just given it to me. Love that eMac though.

Ne. wollte nur was schreiben, was andere auch verstehen könn(t)en.

Alrighty, back to topic.

EDIT - forgot the quote.
