has anyone owned both the icurve and the elevator?

i was wondering whether the newer elevator (which doesn't look as good) is a good update? in particular, the icurve allows you to slide your keyboard quite far under the actual laptop, but the elevator doesn't seem to let you go that far underneath.

what are people's thoughts?

I'm not sure I understand your concern. I am able to slide my keyboard all the way under the elevator with additional room to place it even further back.

In any event, the elevator is a good all-round stand. It's priced well, closely matches Apple's styling, keeps my MBP cooler and improves general ergonomics (i.e. my neck is no long sore from always looking down at the screen).

Fair enough. I wouldn't exactly call it expensive though.

They're much cheaper in Chinatown (if the vendor doesn't rip you off). $2/stalk is expensive. You can get a nice bound arrangement of 10 (albeit smaller sized) with holding dish/vase for about $15 if you haggle and stuff. You can't do anything with the IKEA ones but throw them in together. They're usually already to large to bind into an arrangement.

I've never owned an icurve but saw one at a friend's house. I chose the elevator though because you can take it apart and pack it in a suitcase.

Why would you want your keyboard underneath the icurve anyway?

You can fit an external HD nicely under the elevator if you wanted to. Read that at the apple blog.

All that technology, yet the maturity of a 13 year old, with equal grammar to boot.

*sigh*

Wait! You're 13!?!??

Nice setup by the way. :)

he must have an older brother.. unless hes just got rich parents.

dude im 13 and i don't even have that much, (well on a 2nd thought i could of...)

anyways.... great setup dude. :D :apple:

Ok, no one said that he was 13, but that he had the maturity of a 13 year old

I have the 2005 iCurve model (I think they are still nearly the same) Yes, the keyboard fits under nicely, and it works great for both my 12 and 15 inch machines. My only dislike is that it is a little wobbly (i.e. hard to type on it when you need to)

What i meant was that under the icurve you're able to slide the top of the keyboard just underneath the lip of the laptop (cause the 'prongs' stick out further than the footprint of the base', but it looks like the elevators 'prongs' don't extrude as far out as the base than the icurve.

The reason i'm asking is that i have a very shallow deskspace, so the further i can slide the top of my keyboard under the laptop (while it's in use), the better.

thanks

Oh!!! OK. Well, the top prongs actually stick out about 1.5"-1.75" from the foot of the Elevator. Hope that helps.

Sorry for the poor focus.

The 2.66 Xeon Tower is on the floor to the right. Everything except the Airport Base station and 750GB drive attached to the Airport is contained within that baby or on my desk top. Brings tears to my eyes. I used to have hard drives all over the desktop with my old MDD. Now I have 2.3TB in that floor model and no clutter.

Home sweet home...

MacBook Pro 2GHz CD, 2GB RAM, 80 GB HDD, 300GB External Maxtor HDD
20" Apple Cinema Display
PowerMac G4 1GHz, 1GB RAM, 60+120 GB HDDs
30GB iPod Video (white)
Samsung 30" 720p LCD
Yamaha HTR-5935 5.1 Receiver
XBox 360
Misc. other random Apple gear... AEBN, iSight, two older iPods (2nd, 3rd gen)

That's about it!

I spy an iPod Nano ;)

Yeah, I wish that was mine... but it's my friends. They are a hell of a lot better for the gym than the iPod Video, but I can't seem to make myself fork out another two large just to have one that works better somewhere else.

Nice setup. What speakers are those hooked up to the AVR? :)

Thanks, yeah they're just the Yamaha speakers that came with the receiver. It's a home theater system in a box that I got from Best Buy a while back.

Can I get the source for the left wallpaper? Oh, & you might want to alter your sig - I'm pretty sure you don't really have only 9MB of RAM!

I'm seeing that quite a few people have 26"-50" TV's hooked up to their mb/mbp's. Does anyone have suggestions of good TV's to be hooked up to my MBP?

How about a shuffle?

How about a shuffle?

Yeah, I've got a 1st Gen 1GB Shuffle, but the lanyard swings around when working out, and my arms are too big for the Apple arm band that they made for it. I use the shuffle when I absolutely need music, but it gets just a little too annoying having that lanyard on...

Nice setup....with all that tasty gear I think you could lay it out in a friendlier way in my opinion

Still like the colors and lighting in the old one a little better, though.

A year late but I dig your setup....any updates???

If you want quality and don't mind paying an extra hundred for a nice TV of a certain size, I absolutely recommend Samsung. They are the TVs of all TVs for the time being, and I have literally not one bad thing to say about my 30" Sammy LCD. It's gorgeous plugged into my PowerMac, even over VGA... As soon as I get my DVI -> HDMI cable in, it should really look nice.

*homer simpson drool*
I won't even get started on how it looks plugged into a 360... jebus, the colors and the definition are next to none.

I recommend just going into a local Best Buy or something and comparing them in person. You'll never be convinced by anyone's words as well as you will be by just seeing it for yourself.

It would be great to show MacRumour member's Mac setups!

AND even cooler, to see them past and present to show how they've progressed, SO, i shall start :)

mine goes:

1 • Power Mac G4 350MHz, and still going strong!
2 • Rev A 12" PowerBook G4
3 • eMac 1GHz Superdrive
4 • 1GHz TiBook Superdrive
5 • 12" iBook G4

prior to getting the Power Mac I had a purple iMac though, I wish I had taken photos of it, oh well! :p

Post photos of your setup! Your current one is great, but past setups too if ya have them! :)

Original Starter of this thread what's your setup look like these days???
