Nice...........but what do you need the Dell for

iGary said in another thread that the company he works for, required a backup machine to continue his work if the Powermac goes down  More than likely it will be the Dell ;)

iGary, is that the 24" Dell 2405FPW?
What performs better the ACD or Dell?

It is the 2005FPW, and I'd hook it up to a Macintosh before I made judgements, it looks crappy with Windows. The adjustment is nice, but it's plastic. The ACD's aluminum feel like sex. I'd still spend the extra 300 for something I stare at 12 hours a day.

Perhaps an Apple Mouse and Keyboard for the Dell iGary? Or at least remove the Apple mouse pad from under that hideous Dell...

Nah, actually the keybord and mouse work pretty well.

What mapping software is it? and plus you can play dvd's on it (the dell)

Seriously not trying to sound like an ass, but I can't tell you who's software it is (stupid non disclosure clause - although I'm sure someone could figure it out by looking hard enough). Didn't think about playing DVD's - good idea!

es, I know what he meant - he led his wires so they don't get all tangled and "visible". I'd like to do the same to my cables, and that's what I'm asking him, what does he use to/how did he lead the wires.

My bad on the spelling, I use adhesive cable tie mounts under the desk:

I'll take a pic under the desk when I get back later..

Nice...........but what do you need the Dell for?

Backup, and it runs my cartographic software that VPC choked on on the Mac.

Yup, or off center in case your two displays aren't identical. It just takes a little careful work in Photoshop to do that. Of course it helps to start with a really high resolution image. Attached below is an example, scaled down from 1920x1200 for the left and 1600x1200 for the right. edesignuk adapted the original image to span his two 20" displays. I found the image somewhere - if you search the forums you could find the link to the original file.

A good source of dual-monitor desktop images is www.mandolux.com.

Thanks for the hints on the dual display desktop image, Rod Rod. :D

nice setup. very minimal. :)

I hope everyone is taking their batteries to the local hazardous waste facility ... remember: DO NOT THROW AWAY BATTERIES! It sucks for you and it kills our environment. :)

Here's a nice rechargeable battery site: green batteries ... They test the batteries and chargers and have some good info. on batteries in general.

I have a BT mouse as well, but i don't like how many batteries it eats. :( I actually don't like the (ever so slight) delay with a BT mouse; im going back to wired.

Interesting shuffle dock you have there. What's it actually for? Camera? Hub? Or is it some strange 3rd party shuffle dock I haven't seen before?

It's actually this new Belkin USB hub that's really cool. It's got three ports on the back (for my iMic, Keyboard, and ext. HD), as well as the top one which was designed for the iPod shuffle.

Here's a link from the Best Buy page:

Ah yes. I've seen something similar here in the UK, doesn't look as nice though. The ones I've seen are much bigger and bulkier, hence I wasn't too sure if it was one of those. The ones I've seen you can stack (apparently!) hence why they have the top USB port, aswell as being handy for shuffles etc! Seems a very nice hub! Along with a very nice setup. Been wondering about a nice looking hub to look good next to a mac. I have a belkin 7-port see-through one from my old Wintel laptop. Its not too bad, has nice lights that look good in the dark. See my setup pic to see it.
Thanks.

Wow, your mouse looks all spacey in that photo. Yeah, the hub is nice and all, but it's actually a bit small for my needs. I may have to get a second hub that's more functional but not so pretty and hide it under the desk or something. I still need to hook up the printer, the scanner, the camera, blah blah etc.

Thanks. Thats the effect I was after! I like using my PowerBook in the dark, just work off its screen light, mouse light and occasional USB (clip onto screen) light.

My first Mac setup! YAY! Notice my PC's Wallpaper. Will post more updates when I get my iBook more settled in.

Thanks! I kind of planned it that way. Next I'm going to get a tall table, put the monitor on there, and let the iBook take the whole desk! :D
